Quicksilver HD on Ebay

I'm looking at a Quicksilver SIB on Ebay with a late Tohatsu 9.8.

Problem is that the engine is a long shaft, which the seller claims is correct for the boat.

I'm 99% sure it should have a short shaft, anyone know for certain ?

Link to auction

Cheers

Im 99.9% sure it should be a shortshaft. Ask him to give you the measurement of under the saddle to cav plate and of the transom top to the bottom of the transom in the "keel" area. That will tell you.

Negatives: He looks to be a general dealer rather than an owner selling a cherished SIB. States SIB cost £2950 new without engine or trailer.... really?? They're only £1550 new now. Sun fading not good. Problems with SIB glue seem to relate to amount of sun exposure so I'd rather one that didn't look at all bleached. Fly with a 9.8... one up it will plane but needs a 15 min or 20 really.

Thanks everyone.

I know its an odd combination, but its for use in the lakes with a speed limit of 11.7mph, so want a biggish boat but a smallish engine. And TBH , the Tohatsu 9.8 is an engine ive heard a lot about, but never owned. Just fancied giving 1 a try.

He tells me that the cavitation plate is perfectly in line with the keel, if I could be bothered I would ask what part of the keel and which cavitation plate

I think it is a dealer, he seems to create a reality that suits his purpose (and profit)

Im going to pass, its jumped up in price now anyway and its a long trip to find its been incorrectly described.

>>>Im going to pass

Good call. The fact that he's not truthful/accurate about the original new price, performance with a 9.8 and the shaft length would call into question anything he told you about it.

Understood re use and smaller OB. Those 9.8s are brilliant and I do wonder now and again about buying a minter and storing it for the day when we can't manage a 15/20 and have to downsize to keep sibbing (I'm 61 this year so do look ahead to potential difficulties as life moves on!).

Looks like a short shaft to me. I think the l/s motors have three small splash plates above the a/v plate.
Having said that, overall condition of boat nor motor look particularly appealing.

I must admit I wondered if the main photo suffered wide angle distortion causing it to look a bit like a long shaft which then added to the guy's possibly incorrect assertion it was. Actually just compared to a photo of our 2006 shortshaft 9.8 and all the spacings (allowing for ebay photo distortion) look to be that of a shortshaft.

But yep the rest of the situation would put me off.

RIBase
Same boat as my Mercury 365 short shaft without packers engine cav plate inline with keel at the stern only 25 hp rated it would go well enough with the tohatsu

Looks Short shaft although some shortshaft boats may cause some aeration while having short shaft outboards depending on sea condition, inflation pressure and weight balance..case with my sib. Still wont put a long shaft outboard.
