Damn. You've sussed us then, a shower of mackerel hookers . It's not that we don't fish, we just keep our dirty little secrets close.... Why only last week my motley crew massacred far too many unfortunate Pout off the SS. Laurentic. I for one could use some instruction on the plethora of new tackle that has appeared over the last decade. So I may just shift my Trolling Grounds to off the WSF. Occasionally.

The EU hasn't banned fishing yet? It seems so... barbaric! What have those fish ever done to any of you?

best cod i ever caught was in an old 16 foot sib,big fishing comp at our club ,every one all hard boaters all shot straight out to see for miles ,i did not have the time so me and another club member a yachtie who had never been in a sib before went fishing just out past the surfline, kept drifting in and when we were about to get brooched we moved back out .we caught the only decent size fish of that day .,,,i used to use the boat for crab lobster potting, great in a sib,as we could drop pots right up to rocks and places other hard hull boaters wouldent dare go .

Curious... as a Zodiac Futura MK2 C owner...
Is it safe to fish off of these things?
Any issues.... are your crafts primarily all patches with little witness of original hull shown... kidding. But seriously, I have my son who will be (8) shortly, I just keep thinking of a scenario when he is reeling in at Mario Andretti speed and drives that tripple barb into the side of our craft....
Can a hook, lure, etc. easliy penetrate?
Any feedback or suggestions?
Thanks,
Edmund

Just get a few car mats (the tough plastic ones) and lay them over the tubes. That would stop the hooks from causing trouble.

I have the aluminum floor.... but yes, my son is soon to be (8)... I am always on my toes, ducking when he's casting, again when he has snagged a weed and is reeling in.. or just plain standing there taling but swinging his rod equipped with whatever is currently on it, crankbait, worm on hook, etc. This stuff makes me nervous about fishing on the Zodiac... I will tell you what though... at 47, my reflexes are getting FASTER... thats an acomplishment eh?
LOL....
Thank You!
Edmund

Know what you mean about hooks. I had a hard boat fisherman using my tubes as a fulcrum for his rod while trying to free a fouled line - the tide was pulling the boat over the rod and line and the pressure was mounting! The rod was digging into the tubes and he was holding for dear life. No verbal instruction was registering. So he discovered why I carry a knife on my belt at all times while on the rib. Ping! Oh Man! a 30 minute b1tch silence ensued.....
I carry a length of lino rolled on a plank (tucked under a tube) for rookie mackerel hookers! Handy to deploy

i try get the kids to wait until i am ready, then get them to drop the whole lot into an empty plastic box or bucket in one go ,fish ,lures weights, that way all the crap is in one place and hooks dont get caught up on feet clothes and the boat ,especialy if using a trace with a few hooks on ,i dont allow casting out from my sib with the kids ,anyhow theres no need to in a boat unless your into uptiding ,well up our way , mart

No kids on my boat, but my crew bear watching at all times! I kept spotting the sharp nosed clippers, loose tackle and even the gaff left loose on the floor! So I insist that everything that isn't in a tackle box go right into the top of my 5 gallon bucket that holds my 200' of anchor line and the plow (the gaff has a holder of it's own). After two warnings anything not mine that is sharp and unrestrained goes over the side. As we fish in remote locations I point out that offenders are free to swim home if they don't like it. A small puncture from a hook isn't usually too bad. The air loss is gradual and the foot pump will deal with it as you cruise home. I carry a clamshell clamp for any possible bigger punctures. "Don't f'n hook the boat" My crew got a little tired of that phrase for sure! But in my experience it is the loose items in the boat that will cause you the most grief. Oh yeah, Be sure to check your boat after pulling out. My brilliant crew left the fillet knife unsheathed on the floor prior to a rough four wheel dirt road journey to camp. Two of the crew were professionals, both rated officers. Hmmm, Maybe I do have kids on my boat.

Some of those inexpensive telescoping rods can work quite well and are very handy when space is limited. A couple of friends were using them this weekend and did just as well catching fish as anyone else out there.
Some of you have seen this before, but here is a modification I did with a rod holder on my boat;
http://rib.net/forum/showpost.php?p=252420&postcount=15
At the time I had not yet installed it on the transom, but here is a picture with it installed;
It works extremely well & I will be adding one or 2 more. It also can serve double duty as a stern light pole holder.
