removing texture step

/Users/ericrainey/Desktop/IMG_3630.HEIC/Users/ericrainey/Desktop/IMG_3631.HEIC

How do you remove these textured step patches? I want to install a Bimini and they are right in the area I want to put the mount.

Welcome to the board

Can't see the photo but I would assume you mean wear patches? Heat gun should take them right off. Might take a little time to heat the glue properly, which means hot, as in too hot to touch. If it is an older boat, where the patches were will probably show no matter how much time you spend attempting to clean it up with Acetone. Might be better to grind it some, and mount the bimini mounting plates to the top of the wear patch. Will make a solid footing for the bimini to mount too.

It's a new Zodiac open 4.2 with PVC tubes. I can't get the pictures to load. I do like the suggestion on grinding or sanding the textures grip area for steeping on. I have an orbital that could do it. Thanks for your help.

I looked at the online photos. Grinding a small section out for mounting the bimini is how I would do it. Got a photo online of your bimini mounts? An orbital wouldn't be my sander of choice. More like a small belt sander, or Dremel type tool. No need to grind more than necessary. Mark the outline out with tape and just make it flat for gluing too. Use a two part glue.
