Rigiflex with a 25hp 2 stroke

I know not a rib / Sib but....

I have a Rigiflex Matic i use as a harbour tender beach runner boat nothing fancy just gets bashed up. my question is the Rigiflex matic 260 is rated to a 30hp - been offered a lovely mariner marathon 25hp 2 stroke.

Has anyone tried with one of these on? or similar...

Cheers!

I know nothing about the Rigiflex but a quick internet search came up with the Rigiflex 300 only being rated at 15hp, so I would tend to think that the 260 is similar or less.

whoops sorry Rigiflex Matic 360 is what I have - I see they are rated to 30hp but never experienced one with that much power.

I didn't see a 260 in the range... perhaps the OP has a 360 which is 30hp rated? in any case a phone call or email to BHG/Rigiflex will probably get the answer...

info@rigiflexboats.co.uk

Ahh the above crossed with the OP's update. In the absence of any folks with Rigiflex experience I'd think it should be fine given folks happily used 25hp motors on the 45kg Aerotec SIB like mine and the Rigiflex weighs 120kg. Also I've used a 3.6m similar flattish hull shape grp Bonwitco and that was fine on a 25hp.

Several clubs I know use the Rigi 360's with 25's as their favoured option. Especially a lighter 2 stroke should be fine, although still relatively heavy if you want to heave it on/off beaches regularly.

We run ours at the club with a 10hp which is far too underpowered - personally I think 15-20hp is the sweet spot for the 360 for a good combination of power and portability.

I run a rigiflex 360 with 20hp suzuki 44kg EFI, and she will do 20.5kts flat out, with just me in it and i'm a big bloke, however it is trimmed out to notch 2, and 12 ltr fuel tank in the forward locker (runs on shell v power E5),
20hp is a sweet spot for them, my yacht club has 15hp yamahas on them (notch 1) 51kg carbd, and they are sluggish,

I dont know why clubs have 10hp or 15hp on them as they are underpowered esp if you got 2 adults in and buoy tackle as well.

I recommend suzuki outboards for them as the 15 and 20hp are EFI and 44kg

It depends what location you're in and what you're using it for - personally I think 15hp on flat/inland water is generally more than enough unless very heavily loaded. On coastal and/or moving water 20hp can be helpful. Our sailing club's 9.9 on the fast moving water of the Thames is definitely sluggish, but with just me onboard still planes nicely at 13kn, which is all I need (although personally I'd never spec one with a 9.9!).

15hp is underpowered for safety work, however depends on engine, as yamaha is 51kg carbd and suzuki is 44kg EFI for 15hp, (I'am biased towards suzuki but figures quoted are correct)
personally 20hp is sweet spot as gives you extra power if you have to right a inverted dinghy
