River Severn (Shrewsbury) outing
Looking for somewhere to use my new SIB, was looking on the web and nowhere seemed to know the regs for the Severn. Does anyone know the regs for the Severn in the Shrewsbury area, if not are there any other locations in the west midlands/ mid Wales area to try it out?

If It's the same as further down the river then....
It's an open boat with an outboard so is exempt from the boat safety scheme. You need a licence though. The cheapest way is a 30 day explorer license which gives you 30 day tickets you fill in yourself that are valid for a year you need to prove safety scheme exemption (a pic of the boat) and have 3 million quids worth of liability insurance. Speeds are 8 knots down stream and 6 up I think.

Finally went on the river today! She run beautifully and best of all it was completely free! Just turn up at the council run slipway and launch the boat, no licence or Insurance needed! The lovely weather just topped the superb day off.

Where in Shrewsbury is the slipway? I'm not too far away so may give this a go!

The slipway is almost exactly in the town centre, just google Shrewsbury marine and that will show you exactly where to go. I would head up stream if I were you, as going down stream you will hit the weir pretty quickly. where as going up once you get past the show ground you can go for miles and and open the motor our as there is usually no one on sight.

Great stuff! Will have a look.
Not much room for 'opening out' with my little 5hp honda Saving for 9.8hp though so then the fun will start!

Severn
Was in Shrewsbury Monday and looking at the water flow you will need a powerful engine to battle against it so be careful

I know this is an old thread, but rather than start a new one, I thought I would resurrect it, as I am looking for the same information: Where to launch a SIB in the Shrewsbury area (and, in fact, further down the Severn) both safely and cheaply.
I like the idea of the free slipway - is that still free?

I have recently launched at the lower lode Inn near Tewkesbury, it has a ledge just below the water level that made recovery difficult, £10.
Used the Marina at Upton upon Severn a few years ago , slip was fine , it was £20.

Thank you, tinker.
I've just looked up both of those places - the one at Tewkesbury, do you get onto the Avon and then onto the Severn? And if so, do then need a license for both rivers?

The license I purchased covered both rivers for 7 days. I was asked for the number when I went through the lock upstream from the lower lode Inn. I went on the Avon for a short distance into Tewkesbury but never went through any locks.
There's a small jetty at the lower lode Inn that could be used to keep SIB in the water for a weekend.
Be mindful of the ledge on the slip , I wouldn't want to launch a large boat on that slip when the water level is low, I had to wade in and pick the back of the SIB up to get the launch wheels onto the slip.
