RNLI D Class show and tell.

We have all seen the Y class show and tell so here is one for the D's. I know a few people have them. Let's see what you have!

Here is my 1995 ex RNLI D class with a old 40hp Mariner 2 stroke. Lots of repairs and freshly varnished.

I spent many happy hours in them, and it was for work, and they paid me as well. A nice looking boat have now. If you could get the marina 40hp 2/cyl one carb with all its extra bits and pieces, that would be slap bang up to date before they brought in the 50hp on the (y?) boats.

D318 Modeller I

I brought my D class last year, so far i have stripped and re varnished all the wood which was remarkable in good order, fitted a new mattress flooring, found new oars and compass and fuel bags. I have also fitted an ex rnli 40 hp mariner. As the transom had been cut for a short shaft i have had to raise the height (temporarily wedged in place with a metal plate for now until i carry out a proper repair later in the year).

I have also made a new lid for the battery box which i have used for a sonar and gps mount and mounted a radio above which i think looks smart but obviously not very original.

The orange tube patches had been painted but all the paint was flaking so i have also repainted them which really brightener her up.

funnily i have lots of photos of each stage but no photos of her now, i will have to take some this weekend and post.

i am somewhat proud of how she now looks and she goes as well too.

Wow sounds like you have a made a great boat even better. I did see this one on eBay earlier in the year. Look forward to seeing the photos of what she looks like today.

Thanks

Awesome SIBs, truly the King of SIBs. Never tire of studying these at our local lifeboat stations and open days.

Watched a few down the years and they can be picked up for very little money considering what you're getting.

What sort of performance do they give with the 40?

Mine doesn't "fly" but it shifts enough I think it would be great with a 50hp.

I have an A frame in the garage, I'm undecided on fitting it, it looks great fitted but I like the original look, what do you all think? Click image for larger version

Nicest one I've seen was on EBay last year - all the rare extras, trailer and Mariner 40 - didn't even get bid above £1700. Crazy.

Fantastic, what a deal with all that kit.

Rude to ask how much of course...

What's the big white box of tricks in the bow and what are the round orange things?

Quite like the 'bare' look but the frame would be useful, should be easy to create a plug n' socket fitting on the transom so you have the choice?
