Thanks max, took me all winter to find a nice 25 mariner at a good price, got this for £800 and sold my 15 for £950 so can't complain.
With a 15 it is a very good boat 2 up. Still good for wave jumping, but it does lack a little, and with an extra person/gear it struggles. The size of the tubes and its weight make it almost fool proof to handle, i guess its like the larger RNLI ribs, they're all under powered compared to a similar sized leisure boat.
As they were never CE plated there's no max hp. But a similar sized 3.4m supersport takes a 25, and the supersports tubes have half the volume for start not to mention how heavily built the Y is.
I haven't tested it properly yet (4mph speed limit) but the 25 makes it fly, not that i was speeding... it still feels very safe. The extra weight is in no way a disadvantage. Hoping for over 25 knots 2 up. I think i got about 18knots from the 15hp. Hoping to get down to the coast in a few weeks, to really try it.
There was one on boatsandoutboards last week for £500. Not a very clear photo and not sure if any kit was included.

Well, I have the chance to look at one this weekend at a great price but although the main tubes etc look fine and can be revived I think the transom has gone beyond a lick of varnish (ie semi-terminal). What do you think chaps?

As long as the price is right it, It looks like it can be fixed.
I replaced the whole transom with new marine ply on my first ml lifeguard sib.
But it was alot worse than this looks.

Decided to pass on it - a bit far too much sorting required. A fair price though.
As was the engine on offer - the original RNLI Mariner Marathon 15hp for........wait for it...........£250! And yes I know I could have bought it and flogged it on eBay for £700+

As far as know the current Y boat dimensions are just about the same as the older one ,
Overall length....3.60 m
Beam .....1.68
Tube diam .....44 cm
Usable internal space from transom right up into the V of the bow with anchor box removed ....2.30 m or can carry standard orange ferno Type basket stretcher ,,, with a bit of foot work from the crew & the stretcher resting ontop of anchor box .
Deflated boat with dismantled floor & engine , standard safety equipment anchor , flares ,oars ect will fit into the back of my old zafira & fit 3 persons .

Max. Not yet. Good weather & bank hols = long working hours for me. Gonna varnish the floor and transom. Tidy up a patch on the floor and hopefully get out after the May bank hol.

Ahh, good stuff. Currently doing the same (varnishing, couple of deck fittings) to that 3.6 Suzumar I got, it will be a good substitute until I find a Y (he said three years on!). But it's given me a really nice little Indespensipn trailer, 2006 Mariner and I have a Y mattress and orange fuel bladder and compass so getting there!
