Whisper and I had a bit of a fight to dismantle this thing but it did come apart. Heavy duty doesn't do it justice, the old Y Class is built tough. It's in lovely condition but needs a good clean and a touch of varnish. Prep is already underway. More to come...

Awesome! Glad both of the Y Class's have found good homes. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Sure looks like you had your work cut out taking it apart. Will you be getting a trailer for it?

Sure need one, it won't be getting wet otherwise!

But planning to be out in the Aerotec this weekend but weather for Saturday has just changed to (more) thunderstorms. ****ing worst non-summer I can ever remember.

Well done on finally getting a Y-class Max... look forward to pics of you out in it.

>>>planning to be out in the Aerotec this weekend but weather for Saturday has just changed to (more) thunderstorms...

I can't quite believe it but tomorrow the tides are right and at our launch site the weather looks like this below... unsurprisingly everything's in the car ready to go!

Some more comparing the sizing of the Y to the Aerotec.

The Y keel 'sausage' is enormous compared to any other SIB of this type.

I'll post up some detail pics that might be of interest.

Old elastics on the storage bags very tired, will treat them to some nice fresh boingy stuff.

How I wish all SIBs used valves of this quality, real heavy duty brass that work perfectly and any tapered hose fitting seals nicely into a big fat rubber gasket. No secondary air seal (a la Zodiac) needed as the valve holds air just like a valve should. The cap is just a dust cap.

Congratulations Max. Do you know the history? If you want to let me know the number I can find out for you (PM if you prefer). Are you planning to launch from the trailer direct, or from trailer to wheels to sea? If the latter I'll dig out some photos of my setup. It has taken a few iterations but it works pretty well now.

Cheers

Chris

Thanks Chris, I will PM you. Concentrating on the Aerotec for now but with the weight of this it will be slip only so I will probably just drop it off the back of a trailer (if I can find one!). But might use some non-fixed transom wheels of dolly or whatever.

I generally use slips, bar a couple of holidays I have had to manhandle down a lake bank (hence bending my last pair of transom wheels). Main reason for my setup is to make launch as quick as possible, and avoid trailer bearing maintenance.

Trailer started life as a standard De Graaf bunk trailer. I took some advice from a SIB (and Y boat) expert who recommended extending the side bunks and adding a keel bunk. The lighting board just meets the regs for height, and as I don't dip the trailer it is semi permanently attached.

Arrive at the launch site. Remove straps. Tilt engine and replace engine support with second roller. Lift transom onto first roller, lift bow and roll boat back onto transom wheels.

Cheers

Chris

Well, was pretty awesome out there yesterday, went from Bexhill to Sovereign harbour for some respite (and chips) but coming back riding the following sea was epic. Seriously good wave jumping the other way too. Once again, the Aerotec was so impressive in the way it handled the big sea.

Had endless buckets of sea water in my face and Davy Jones locker claimed another item - my Oakleys long gone...

A couple more details pics, here the huge keel with my quite large hand for comparion. The two straps come up through the access hole in the floor and are screwed down onto the floor itself.

And here the front bow board which is tensioned into the front with the bottle screws.

The board is fully glued into the bow.

Excellent stuff. Maestral has those too. Never leak.
