Rough valuation of Mariner 15hp

Hi, can those in the know give me a rough estimate of value of this outboard please.
Its a 2006 Mariner 15hp 2 stroke short shaft. It is tiller controlled has the gear lever on the side and has a pull out choke. It is in overall vgc but the prop has been lightly marked by sand and it has a few light scratches though nothing serious. It starts second pull and runs really well.

I would be asking £950 and take a close offer.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply. I'm looking for a 25hp and will keep whichever one I prefer and sell the other, may be this one. I just don't want to spend any more on the 25hp than this engine is worth if that makes sense (I've spent enough). Not seen many with side gear lever and didn't know if they are more or less desirable than the tiller gear control or if it makes no difference. Cheers.

You did.

A clean, late, looked after 15 2 stroke Yam/Merc/Mariner should make (and has done for a few years now) £1050 - £1250 for the very best.

Yip I watch 20-30hp's prices and they would suggest a clean 15 hp two stroke will be worth over a grand.

Thanks, thats pretty much what i expected but nice to have it confirmed. I know i would get a better deal if i could wait for a package boat / engine to turn up but not sure i want to wait for one, life too short and all of that.

Long-shaft engines might be worth a little more, but a clean unmarked 15hp is easily worth a grand. Bear in mind these 2-stroke engines are getting rare now, and suit the leisure market. I sold a short-shaft 1986 Yamaha 25hp (model 25D) 4 years back for £500, that's a 20 year old engine.

Perhaps not everyone has found the same but I've seen far more 2000-2006 20/25hp outboards under a grand than over... so if you buy right and do sell the 15hp you should be on the winning side.

Yep Simon's was a really exceptional deal . Now and again they do come up from a seller that doesn't know the market to the nth degree as many do on here.

I really am pleasantly surprised, and I will be taking extra care with my engine... Perhaps it might be worth my while getting it maintained by my local marine engineer from now on rather than doing the work myself, just so it has a decent service record.

Simon

Thanks for the heads up. Is the Autolube anything to watch out for on the Yam 25hp or is it very reliable?

There was a 25hp Yam 2005 for sale for £600 recently, the buyer said it was noisy but hadn't got any worse when he used it, it sold a few days ago, now this engine appears on eBay, same year and from a seller who seems to "dabble" in selling engines etc etc, not saying they are the same, but maybe worth bearing in mind ......

Thanks. Hmm the one on ebay, i believe the seller is a dealer who has at least one other engine on ebay but a different ebay account but same phone number. Of course nothing wrong with that but the fact it is in London i cant drive down there if unsure at all, its just too far away for me.

you are literally guaranteed to have a good engine or your money back, it wouldn't bother me using paypal.

cheers

Yep look at the images closely showing scratches on the hood... it's the same engine... and a £900 uplift for.. I bet nothing other than an explanation "they all sound like that". As said above the latest seller is all over the net with outboards and boats for sale/sold.. a real closet dealer.

Well sort of... as long as paypal find in your favour but you can bet a crafty dealer will find a way of protecting themselves from chargeback.

Just a tip
If you take payment by PayPal and the buyer collects, then says they never, you have no proof of delivery and PayPal will find in the buyers favour
If it's collection only, cash on collection as per PayPal rules

Yep really important. I've had quite a few "collection only, payment in cash" sales of large items recently where the buyer has paid immediately by Paypal. I refund straight away and explain... usually they are fine but I've had a couple of grumbles over the years about this.
