Just be gentle on it. I’ve seen a transom cracked with an overpowered engine, when a heavily laden boat was combined with some enthusiastic throttle use. The boat will handle and perform totally differently with that sort of power, and as a relative newcomer will either scare yourself or be addicted.

Well we headed out today trim pin in. still no sign of prop.
It was raining hard . And quite choppy, didn't venture far from shore but had a dam good time in the chop.
Complete difference with the trim at different setting. Must be mad going out in this weather but hey ho. Lol.

Yeah sorry much better no ventilating/cavitation. So hopefully when new prop arrives things can only be even better again .
I know a lot of people say 6 hp is nothing but albeit no experience I'm really liking this little engine. Probably hate it once I get a shot of a bigger 1, but for now I'm happy.

Hey not been on for a while but just a wee update at last prop arrived fitted and was quite calm out on the forth.
So we went for a little blast around inchmickery plenty of seal pups bathing. So with the calm waters and trim sorted out boat loaded a bit better we topped out at 12.1 knots.
Now I've no idea if that's good or bad .
From the little Yamaha 6hp. Should I be improving on anything else or is that about it from that motor?
Don't get me wrong it was fun and more relaxing than we have experienced so far we even got back completely dry. We are usually soaked which is equally enjoyable. Lol

In perspective I get 22 knots max with my 25 on my SIB
To be honest would it bother you if you didn't know your speed but was on the plane I guess not I run at about 18 knots top speed but happy at 10-11 just on the plane in good conditions

I'd say that's about right (good actually) for a 6hp.
Last year I needed to use a borrowed 8hp on our 3.8m sib and...
With a passenger load of 21 stone it planed easily to 12.5kts and with a passenger load of 27 stone it still crept to a 10.5kt plane.
So if you offset our extra 2hp with our longer sib and greater load we were in the same ball park.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was not bothered about the speed at all. But I had an app on the phone, so just thought I'd check, at the end of the trip, and it said max 12.1knots, whether that be accurate or not. As I say seemed fast to us. We have definitely not been on the plane before, definitely down to the trim pin not being present at the start. ( Thanks for all yr advice on that 1 Fenlander) then they're was the bad prop,( again thanks Fenlander)(also correct pressures) and finally reading some other posts about positioning the weight, I think it's all come together nicely. But yeah all in all I'm chuffed. Now where's that bigger engine. Lol.

On another note , is it just me , but I'm constantly checking weather for the next day, looking at how much the trees are blowing about, checking tide times , and just aching to get out. The wind does obviously stop me but rain or cold I'm not fussed about. Lol. I've even seen myself driving home looking out at the sea, thinking yeah I'll get out. Lol. Addictive it is. Lol.

Hi pal. Not Inchkeith, but we done inchcolm yesterday, cracking day it was.
Are you allowed on Inchkeith island for a wander around , I have been googling it but not come up with a definite answer.
Also inchmickery are you allowed to land they're or is it protected due to wildlife?

I think Inchkeith gets lots of visitors and I can't see why you couldn't wander round. I've only been once, but had the wrong footwear to walk over the rocks and pebbles, so only stayed by the harbour.
It does look interesting though: The Island of Inchkeith - Abandoned Scotland
Inchmickery looks far too rocky to get close safely - think the big navy boats used the old pier so didn't technically land there. And think you're right about the bird sanctuary...
Did you have to pay to land on Inchcolme by the way? That's one I've not done yet but would like to...
I hear it's to be used for a military exercise next month - would be cool to see low flying planes / helicopters overhead from the boat!

When we arrive at inchcolm yesterday we just tied up the boat. They're was only a sail boat they're anchored up . Upon landing on the island we walked about , there's was a guy came out a small house and I take it he is the sort of keeper. I spoke to him and asked if it was ok to wander about , he wasn't very chatty, but said yeah no problem. Beautiful island. Even more so cause it was a great day. We climbed to the highest point where they're is still some old buildings, I'm guessing that use to house guns. Worth a visit though,

We've been out to Inchkieth it is absolutely awesome autumn time when the grass has dued back and the birds arent nesting would be the time to go.
Take good torches and strong shoes or boots and you will rake around for hours in the abandoned houses buildings and tunnels.
It realy is a fascinating place to explore.
We went in nesting season which was a bit scary but fully intend to go back for a better look

I quite fancy giving the Isle of May a try but probably a bit far from Edinburgh with just a 6hp. Maybe achievable from Anstruther on a calm day.
