Having long regarded the Seamax Deluxe one of the ultimate sets of transom wheels how does the new kid on the block Boatworld Heavy Duty copies fair. Certainly not a cheap option at £200
The Canadian Seamax Deluxe wheels are not really a bad price considering the quality but with exchange rates, delivery and import taxes the actual costs can be uncertain at point of order.
Well the design/operation is similar but the details differ. The large, 200 x 60mm 4 position brackets are stainless steel in lieu of aluminium which is odd considering the legs are still anodised aluminium. They are strong enough though and incorporate three countersunk mounting bolts and inner plates per bracket. Four position 38/32mmm shs anodised alloy telescopic legs a similar length and adjustable from 620 to 800mm in four stages. Axle diameter of 20mm as apposed to 25mm on Seamax, and rated to 200kg against the 272kg of Seamax. All stainless steel fittings/axles/lynch and cotter pins etc. Large 14” wheels.
Below average quality finish of aluminium drillings out of the box which work well enough but benefit from removing burrs etc. and you really shouldn’t need to do this. Slide pin latch can bind in track if not careful although easily rectified, and as with all makes, a regular dose of spray lubricant works wonders on the moving parts.
Until we get a UK importer for Seamax these may provide a slightly more cost effective alternative, but perhaps not quite up there with the quality in the details. They are however 90% there and still a heavy duty set which work well and should last.
On balance I’d still recommend them despite the shortcomings.
PS: Makeshift pivot bolts not standard in pic of wheels mounted on boat as I’d left the supplied ss cotter pins at home!
