Seats with Backs on your SIB

Having gone out in the Sib yesterday for about 4 hours sitting on the seat. With a padded seat cover I felt that I would like to be able to lean back at times.

I am going to give my Kayak seat a try if I can find a good way of fixing it.

Not keen on sitting on the Tubes

I was wondering if others use seats with backs on their Sibs.

It is a Honwave T38 so a reasonable sized SIB

kayak seat works but best on a base so you have fixing points

You have to wonder if ditching the bench seat all together and sitting on somthing like this might be comfy

I used to take a 1980's style alloy tubed fold up garden chair in my GRP dinghys, takes up no space folded and supports your back well. Using one in a sib would be fine with an alloy floor but with an air floor you would I think need to spread the load some.

I love my folding seats. Changed the foam in the bottom with 1.5” high grade foam. It comes with 1” cheap foam. Cover snaps off and fits the taller foam stack. I don’t have pic but here is a link to a video what shows it very well. I’ve posted this video before so skipping it might be best for most of you.

I picked up a folding camp seat like thishttps://www.winfieldsoutdoors.co.uk/...kaAvxGEALw_wcB from Go Outdoors, think it was reduced to £10 at the time. Its actually really effective.

It straps onto the bench and you adjust the side straps to make the back more or less rigid.

Not the same as a fixed seat but provides enough back support to make multiple hours in the F-rib much more comfortable and folds flat so easy to store.

I actually use it when pic-nic'ing and stuff as well now.

Cheers,

MM

Surely for days when a backrest on a sib is the preferred option you just take another one of your flotilla?

Being slightly more serious (I don’t have a SIB - I have a RBB). I soon found a bench seat annoying. I ripped it out and fitted a jockey seat. As the boat and console are made from HDPE I used an HDPE water tank for the seat, then attached classic backrest acquired on here (two in fact). It strikes me that with some careful thought/design it might be possible to create a seat and console design which would open up so you could pack a sib inside it and it would become the carry case. Probably only possible with a hard floor sib to bolt to.

I tend to use the T38 when we go away in our caravan and we offten pootle up quite calm rivers. It is nice to have a back rest on those longish journeys and with no real chop to worry about it does not need to be a fixed down one. I think the one posted above will be fine and can also be used as a seat when you reach your pic nic spot

This style of upright seat is popular in Holland. Kids liked the extra support, I preferred the plain bench.

(seats are folded, but you get the idea)
