Short or long shaft

Hi all I'm thinking of upgrading my outboard I have at the mo a Pro Shore 2.9 it came with a Mercury 4hp 4 long but after doing alot of research as I'm looking to upgrade my outfit in the future I'm not sure if my pro shore has the right shaft length. The transom is 15" from what I've read it should take a short shaft is that right

It takes a short shaft, pretty much all Sibs do (Except the big speed tube Futura's).

People end up buying long shafts because they tend to be cheaper (Long shafts used on small yachts and day boats where a 4 stroke is nicer, so over supply of 2 stroke long shafts.)

My 4HP 4 is standard shaft sorry for any confusion from what I gather 15" should be short is that right? my transom is 15 and a quarter inches my outboard measured from bottom of the engine to the plate above the prop is 20" standard shaft. Is that wrong? :O

Standard/Short are the same at 15"

Long is 20"

XL is 25"

There is a small amount of variance between brands.

Your boat is a standard/Short shaft.

Some smallish hp std shaft outboards are 18" from the cav plate to the saddle.
