Sib and Caravan

Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone likes to combine boating and caravanning and what SIB you take with you. I predominantly boat in the sea whilst at home so I like the sea keeping and size of my T38 but it's a bit of a squeeze to get through the door of my caravan and i dont want to damage anything. The trips we have made so far have been ulswater and the river Ouse so I'm thinking a smaller boat wull be fine, my worry is will the packaged size be much smaller if I buy say a 3m boat ?. If anyone has bought a boat for the van and can chip in that would be great.

Take care

Matt

Hi Matt, difficult to give any advice when you've not said what car or caravan.

90% of the time I use Redneck it's whilst I'm away in the caravan. However I have a Navara and a twin axle van so have the room.

I really don't see a big difference in pack size between a T38 and a 3 meter sib in terms of trying to squeeze it through a caravan door.
Personally I would stick with your T38 but protect the door opening with something like pipe insulation sleeves when your loading/unloading your T38.

Sorry maybe I wasn't clear enough I am shoving the t38 in the caravan no way it can go in the car as the family outboard and bots and bobs go in there. Actually I have been looking at the boatworld website this afternoon and it gives package sizes for the boats although I expect it would be difficult to re pack the same as new.

With practice it's easily possible to meet of beat the makers pack sizes. From actual experience I can say SIBs such as the 3.25 and 3.6m Zodiac air floor models pack far tighter than say a 3.8m Aerotec or T38.

See pic of 3.6m Zodiac Fastroller... such a slim pack.

Could you manage to get it onto a roof rack?
Only you know really what will and won't fit in/on the car or caravan.
Will a 3 metre sib be big enough for you and your family?

Zodiacs pack the smallest.

I'm able to fit everything , outboard, fuel tank, accessories in a mid sized trunk, and still seat 5 passengers .

Separated trunks protect you from fuel vapors from your carb and tank.

Hi Matt,
Agree the T38, whilst not a heavy boat, is a large and unwieldy package when folded to manhandle through a caravan door.
Probably no need to go significantly smaller, just consider a boat with a removable floor. Two smaller lighter packages will be much more manageable.

I will be transporting the boat in the car boot and the engine in the caravan. The boat (T32) is too much hassle to get trough the narrow caravan door. Plus it weighs upwards of 40kg so would have to be very carefully packed. combine the boat weight with the heavy awning and I would be close to the limit...

I mount a 3.3Hp Merc on the A Frame of the caravan via a 2.5 Inch pipe with the necessary clamp fittings, the tube is held in a jockey wheel holder and metal supports to either side of the A frame and the front.

The 3m Boat is in the back of the cruiser and a light Boat trailer mounted on a bike rack at the rear of the caravan along with an ebike.
