SIB for Kids
I'm contemplating buying a SIB for the Kids to muck around in and learn some skills.
It has to be a cheap package.
So what SIB/outboard combos am I looking at. Outboard has to have a twist throttle on the tiller.

One of the current boat mags has a test of 14 ish SIBS as tenders (2.7m) and one was best budget buy - new for £350 !
Have just given the mag away I'm afraid ........
Outboards - depend how much power you want them to have ! I love my 2.5 Suzuki for my tender/SIB.

I'd suggest an outboard big enough to give good performance, or at least get the SIB on the plane.
I would have thought you could fabricate a stop to restrict the throttle opening fairly easily on most outboards - that way you can limit their speed to start with, then as you / they get more confident remove it.
Cheers
Chris

Thanks Peter, that's a bit radical for me
What I should have said is that I'm definatly looking at the second hand market and something that can be folded up and placed in the boot of a car or aboard my RIB for use in difficult to reach places.

Thanks Peter, I know that's a good price, but I've still to add the outboard and would be looking at around £600/£700 which is a little out of budget.
I'll keep watching ebay

Well it's all your fault anyway Nasher.....
With stories you've told over the years and me recounting them to my Kids. All I get is..."When are we getting out own boat Dad" type of comments

Sounds a great idea Andy - can I come out and learn with them - would they mind a grey haired disaster zone in the same vessel

Yes, they probably would mind as they have their own Grey haired (not quite a disaster zone) but balding Dad to embarrass them.
But the Monster is more than welcome.
You can get some tips from the Mother Vessel if you like.

Sorry Andy, another excuse to post one of my favorite pictures.
The Smaller Nashers in 'The Nippers Revenge' steaming past 'The Nashers Revenge' off beesands, Start Bay, Devon.
My advise would be to keep an eye out for both SIBs and Engines, as you know I got hold of theirs seperately, but buying very cheap meant a lot of work on both the boat and engine, particulary as I modified the boat to accept an airdeck that Olly gave me.
Good luck, I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.
Nasher.

It's a 2.8M PVC Zodiac.
Plenty of room for the 3 of us, but much more fun for them without my weight in it.
The 4HP Merc (XR1 ) gets it going nicely and is very light.
The Airdeck I converted it to makes it much easier to roll up into it's bag both on board the RIB or on Land. But this is also helped by sucking the last of the air out with the electric Pump.
If you want to pop over and see how small it rolls up, just let me know.
With a bit of effort, buying and selling engines etc, the whole thing stands me at @£200, so it is possible to do.
Nasher.
