Sib ladder

as above
ive been looking since i got the boat for a decent ladder that would pack away neat but be deployed easily,in the scheme of things it isn't reinventing the wheel but it does fit in with how i want it to be stowed and ease of deployment so this is what i came up with.
HDPE round bar steps held by knots the rope goes through two back plates inside and outside of the storage bag and on to my seat swivel 12mm bolt for anchoring, as yet i am leaving the rope at that until ive tried it in anger for adjustment also i might need the rope to pull on for the last lift as the ladder will go under the boat as i step up but i will try it first.
the bag is held in place by velcro on the seat to keep it neat and where it's accessible from the water

Looks a neat solution Jeff. From the pics it looks like the flap is designed to be accessible from outside the boat? This would be key so that in an emergency you could reach over the tube and deploy yourself?

thats right paul i float with my dry suit and PFD about level with the flap so easy to deploy and not get caught up on anything.
just doing a slight mod i 'm going to have an orange pull strap instead of the black one to look more professional

Yep looks a neat job. Mrs F isn't as nimble on her feet as me and I've told her if she goes overboard I'll have to tow her into shallows.

well i'm the same david 65 next birthday nowhere near as fit as i was so looking for the easy way, my solid rib ladder was ideal but no space in a SIB for that luxury.
i have had a ladder for some time resting in the bottom of the boat at the stern but i was doing some work ready for the skye trip pulled it out and it got fast on the eye bolts, thought great thats just what you need when the poop hits the fan hence this at least i can see it to sort out.

Not so familiar with the Aerotecs' how does the seat mount to the tubes? On the Frib it slots onto an "awning rail" type fixing that is glued to the tube.

Just wondered if the point loading from the ladder onto the seat would be an issue depending on how the seat is mounted......

my boat is a mercury but standard seat fixings similar to these only difference is i have put thin rope through the plastic bits with yellow tube over so i can re-fit the seat when the tubes are blown up by pulling the yellow loops through first that also stops them lifting out because they trap on the fabric strap.

point loading effectively you half your weight by going through 90 degrees over the tube my fixing point is the seat bolt which has a 50mm HDPE washer to spread the load and raise the seat to the tube height,the ladder bag has two plates with the ropes passing through the middle which lifts the rope off the seat allowing for you to grab hold to pull yourself up the plate also presses down on the seat stopping it lifting.
i weigh 18 stone and tried it works a treat

yep loads of ways you can do it but i wanted something that works for me packed away easy to deploy and not relying on any old hand holds that might be at hand plus wearing dry suit and PFD makes it a lot harder than in shorts

Thanks for posting this. Got a hundred items on the kit list from fish hooks to GPS to blipper, but didn't think about a ladder to get back in after snorkeling, when gravity comes back into the equation. I like the idea of a red quick opening tab for self deployment to prevent the Open Water 2 situation.

This is like the caving ladders some of our tip of the spear guys use in urban warfare.

CG to be honest when I dived I never used a ladder I took all my kit off except fins held the side ropes ducked down to arms length the pulled up fast fining like mad until I got over the tube but that was in my fifties ten years on and putting on weight it's a no no

these little addons to suit your needs are all part of the hobby, people's ideas help others by inspiring an idea to suit them as you say can't beat DIY this hasn't cost me anything I had all the materials in the shed BARGIN

Great mod Jeff.

I picked up a genuine Zodiac diving ladder, aluminium rungs, etc. Works a treat, but rarely use it these days. It's harder to get back into a sib, especially if the water is cold. You can use the step on the outboard anti cavitation/ventilation plate if there's no ladder deployed.

this is what i really wanted but couldnt justify the cost and couldnt source one small enough to fit the transom

This is what I have, and works really well. I've used it on a 3.1m Sib, a 4.5m Rib and now my current 3.8m rib. It's been variously attached to davit eyes, the a frame on the rib and I bolted a permanent stainless steel u bolt on the ply floor of the sib.

The platform folds up over the tube when not in use, then I used a bungee to keep it from moving when under way.
