SIB Launching - Carne Beach, Cornwall

Hi All,

Has anyone any experience or knowledge on Carne Beach in Cornwall. I've launched a Thundercat there years back, but have been boatless until recently.

I've driven down the slipway and onto the beach before, but was just wondering if anyone knows if there are any rules that say you can / can't or any recent updates? Can't find anything online about the slipway! Hoping to use a SIB down there this summer, so ideally would drive the trailer onto the beach, to put the SIB in the water, then same again at the end of the day to recover. It can get a bit busy, so i might have to nicely ask a couple of people to move if they had plonked themselves at the bottom of the ramp!

Most beaches have a 'no unauthorized motor vehicles' sign and obviously these must be obeyed but discretion is needed and I've never been challenged when I've broken the byelaw. I used to store the SIB chained up on a public beach and I wasn't going to bust a gut carrying a 45kg engine several hundred yards over soft sand in scorching heat or a 55kg deflated boat. Car handled it effortlessly. Authorities in Devon and Cornwall are pretty laid back. Locals laughed at my other half for taking it so serious.

Thanks. Haven't seen any sign there that says you can't use the slipway. In fact, i seem to remember there is a sign that says use at your own risk, or similar. I'm not local unfortunately, so i may not be able to check until i next go there (possibly with boat), so it will be a pain if i can't launch. Would probably have to go onto Portscatho and launch there!

Any more local knowledge would be great.

Im sure this yellow sign has been seen, I cant get it any clearer but as it says dead slow I'm going to assume the national trust are happy for you to drive down the slipway.

Yes, I think that’s probably the biggest challenge. Won’t be easy with a trailer on either.

Hopefully if you got there early, it wouldn’t be too big a deal!
