SIB - Self bailer valve

Good Morning all.

I’ve finally got out on the water this year and generally all is going ok and I‘m happy with my set-up.

My question is about the self bailer valve which was fitted with my boat. (I’ve attached some pics) mine is identical expect I have an aluminium deck.
I am right in assuming that the valve should always be open when moving on the water and then closed when anchoring or stationary for a long period of time?
I seem to be collecting quite a bit of water in the keel. This is my first SIB so I’m just seeing what others do if they have the same valve on there boat. (And what is a normal amount of water after a day out?!)

I have an Excel vanguard 330 (aluminium deck), 25kg Outboard. With onboard kit as well the pull up the long slipway, with this additional water onboard is pretty tough!!
It doesn’t drain away quickly either when out of the water.
It’s a great stable platform on the water so that’s the main thing I suppose?!

Thanks

Mike

Generally it should be closed. No water should come in when on the move unless it is being thrown over the transom by the engine or coming in from rough water etc.

If there is water in the keel area then open the valve when fast planing to exhaust it then close it and keep it closed.

Open when finishing for the day or recovering the boat on shore/slipway and tip the boat up to drain it.

RIBase
you will always have a bit of water in there as said gate open when underway closed whilst stood having said that it shouldn't leak if there isn't anything obstructing the mushroom valve. if its a new boat just check there's no glue stopping the mushroom seating properly
