SIB size help

Hi all, I’m very new to the world of SIBs and need some help choosing the right size.

I currently have a 13ft dory with a 18hp Tohatsu long shaft outboard which is the perfect size boat for 2 or 3 people fishing the Firth of Forth.

My uncle has a 4.2m SIB with a 9.8hp Tohatsu outboard which I think is a tad small, but watching how easy it is to launch at the beach is making me want one.

I don’t have a driveway and like the fact these can be deflated and packed or lifted with a few people into my garden.

I’m looking for a SIB I can drag off the beach and can be packed into the back of my van. Ideally something about 4.5-5m. How heavy are these at this size? And would I have to get a different outboard or are there SIB out there that let me use my 18hp Tohatsu longshaft?

To my knowledge, you would be looking at a new OB.

Hi Steve, many thanks for the links! I’ve never found that site before. Some pretty good prices.
105kg is actually really light compared to what I had thought. Buying a new outboard isn’t the end of the world. Would have been nice if I could have used the one I have but no biggie.

I’m off to have a scan over that site now. Many thanks.

A rigid hull will take less hp to drive it when compared to a similar size inflatable which may mean you don't need to replace your engine immediately although 18hp on anything 4m+ wont set the world on fire. You also have the option to add steering & console later which transforms a small boat to feel much bigger. Down side is they dont fold & cost more initially although they do retain value better when time to upgrade comes.

If your going 5m you might not need to change shaft length quicksilver comes to mind.

A 4 m Sib will need more than 2 people to lift it in my opinion
