Sibbing in Norway

I was following an earlier thread of some lads on here Sib touring of the Scottish Islands and I have to say that sounds brilliant.

Just wondered if anyone on here had done something similar in Norway? Taken a tent and toured the Fjords - I may be keen to do something like that next Summer if anyones interested.

Hi Chewy

Yep Ive heard Norway can be alarmingly expensive. I do climbing and mountaineering and several of my climbing mates have been out to Norway most years. They reckon you can forget eating or drinking out as you would require a mortgage.

When they go Ice Climbing they buy a Ski Package deal, use the accomodation and then do their own thing.

I originally planned on taking my wife and daughter with car + camping trailer on the ferry from Newcastle to Kristiansand in the Summer. This is the cheapest route as far as I know as going to Bergen is vastly more expensive.

My idea was to stack up with food this side and drive from Kristiansand to the Romsdal area. I estimate it may take a good day maybe more as they have a 90KM speed restriction. When I last checked fuel and campsites are not much different from the UK.

I have to say Sibbing in those Fjords must be absolutely spectacular. I would be interested to hear from anybody who has

A group of us planned to go camping to Sognefojord a couple of year ago, taking 2 boats, 1 on a trailer and 1 deflated in the back of the van. The cost was unbelievable would have worked out cheaper to fly and go on a cruise. I don't think there are any direct ferry's from the UK to Norway now anyway. If you still fancy it this is a link to a site we were going to be based at http://www.kjornes.no/starteng.htm Scotland is just as spectacular and a damned sight cheaper

I'm living here for 2 weeks out of 4, going out wise beer which is actually lager is roughly £5-£6 per pint, food is a bit more expensive and it takes a while to work out whats what.

As for driving I've yet to see anyone stick to the speed limit, they still drive around using mobiles here and I saw a car this morning with one fog light on as the rest of the front end was missing!

dont they still run ferries from southshields/ newcastle to bergan used to be 18 hours ,we used to go visit reletives in briestein every couple of years just out side bergan, though it was expensive then about £4.oop a pint going back 15 years or so ...bottom of their garden was great a 400 foot drop into the sea then another 600ft deep .if you ever get chance, go on a trip with the mail packet ship ,goes right up to the top of norway and stops off every now and again to unload and load ,,land of the midnight sun ,, tussen takker mart

I had my 40th birthday in Norway on the Hurtigruten - I won't post any pictures because they don't come anywhere near to doing it justice. I do have a couple of vids on youtube, though :-

I can't imagine anywhere that would be both incredible to SIB around, and as dangerous to SIB around.

Local knowledge would seem to be vital...
