Sibbing on the River Ouse York - Information please

I am in my motorhome at Roundtree Park York and wondered if it ok to put my SIB in and have a tootle up and down. I think there is a speed limit (so no planing) but I wondered if you have to register first as I do on Loch Lomond and Loch Ken. I will be sing a Torqeedo outboard.
Thanks for any info

im in york and use my avon rib on the ouse.

its quite simple really,

you need insurance to start,

then a river licence from here https://secure.britishwaterways.co.u....JP2bqtr4.dpuf

a day ticket is about £8 but you can get for longer.

and a place to launch from, york marine on ferry lane in bishopthorpe is closest who will charge £5 for a hand launch or £10 for a car launch.

That's where I launch from and the prices are each way i.e. £10 for a hand launch in and out total. It's a steep slip but easily done by yourself.
Remember the speed limit.
I go upstream through york, I don't think downstream is very pretty.
You can tie up outside the pubs for free. I take a very long cable lock to dissuade chancers from going off with my boat.

There's a very nice slipway at acaster malbis just above the tidal weir. I've got a season ticket to launch there for £100 or you can pay £15 per day between 8am and 7pm. On top of that you will need insurance and a 30 day explorer licence from the canals and rivers trust. The guy who runs the slipway used to sell day permits, if he no longer does then there's a CRT office 100m downstream that does. As far as I'm aware you will not be asked for your insurance.

If you're at Roundtree Park there's a free slip almost directly opposite you, absolutely fine for launching a sib, wouldn't want to launch anything large though... so if there's two of you, drop the sib off and launch, one of you pops the camper a few hundred yards back to the site, other one of you pootles across the river in the sib and picks up the driver...

If you're going to pay though, I'd definitely go for the Acaster Malbis slip, doesn't get any easier than this one. Sure its only £10 though?

They've put the prices up this spring and its now padlocked from 7pm to 8am as well.
If you can get up to York there's a free slip at the bottom of blue bridge lane which is the entrance to the foss basin. But you would have to pay for parking.

Ah, last time I used it must have just been before they put the price up.

Yes, this is the one I was talking about. It's opposite Rowntrees Park and only a few hundered yards by road, so as I said, if there's two people together...

I've never been charged twice be it with my sib or previous speedboat!

It seems to be common practice on the canals and rivers, obviously assuming that you'll be putting it in for a long time/indefinitely.
I think it's mainly an honesty payment thing. You have to go to reception to pay for the launch - there's no one stood there stopping you from just running down the slipway.

Pretty sure if you're retrieving the same day it's a one off payment. I came back once in my mates fletch & it had shut early! Had to unbolt the gate then put it back!

We use Bishopthorpe launch too. Call the number when you get there and he comes down to collect the fee.
Acaster Malbis is okay but very steep.
We do our day ticket online and do get asked for insurance info before they issue the pass.
Speed limit is strict. plenty of house boat owners and anglers ready to point it out if you go over!
We usually go up to museum gardens and moor up there. The area above york is quieter and boats do seem to test the planing up there more
