I am beginning to become very wary of the great SOCKO's mystical powers, during the course of these two threads, and exposure to a 3 times lifesize picture of him, I have turned from an ardent critic to an unpaid distributor of RI......!

Keith if you like RI now then you would have prefered it a few years ago, but maybe we can help get it back there.

By the way I was reading Land Rover Monthly last night and do you know those Elitist's didn't even have a picture of a boat let alone a SIB/RIB. I feel I should complain to the editor

Oh well

Stuart, comma's are better, Hopkins

Stuart

Remember I have a voodoo doll, and you can do soooooooo much more than just stick pins in it.

Yes, commas are a great place to start, but you soon find that you wan't to move up to brackets!

Keith, if you can't beat 'em, Hart

Time for an update.
I have decided that I am going to leave getting a boat until after Christmas. Any money I get for Christmas will be going in the boat fund. I am also now looking for part time work, which will again be for the boat fund (hey if anyone wants any web development stuff doing for a competitive price, let me know ). With a bit of luck, a few months in to next year I may even be able to buy a new boat and outboard. I should DEFINATELY have a boat in time for the Orkney expedition though, so no worries there.

Matt

Typical.
A day after I decide that I won't be able to find anything suitable within my current budget, and I spend the money on some DVDs, games, and a handheld GPS to play with, I get told there's a nice SIB available for £200. A popular Homer Simpson phrase comes to mind.

Pfft, shush you!

I have a 3.1m with inflatable keel lined up. Probably getting it after Christmas. About to get myself a part time job so that I can save up for an outboard (if anyone needs any freelance web development or programming doing, let me know ).

The reason I kept an eye on them is that their prices were reasonable I thought. Incidentally there are a lot of good boat jumbles on around the country every year and from what I've heard you can pick up some really great bargains on everything boating.

Matt, you may have told us before, but what SIB is it? Is someone keeping it for you?

It's a 3.1m Suzumar that Alan McKewan is selling me. He emailed me about it a few days ago, saying he wasn't in a rush to sell it so he could wait till I have the money for it, which I thought was terribly nice of him!

Not too sure yet, depends what's on offer on the second hand market once I've got the boat. Obviously I'd prefer a more powerful engine, but as long as I can get reasonable speed out of it, I'm not too fussed. Apparently it'll take up to 15hp.

Yup, just found the Suzuki website. They now sell a 3.2 and that takes up to 15hp. I can tell you that when we tried out Bill's 3.5 Avon with the 8hp engine (he brought of Dave today - yipeeee) it flew up the River Severn (don't tell the river patrol).

Remember that the 8hp will be lighter than a 15hp.

Here is Matt in his dreams after he has his SIB.....

Hah. They'd swim miles from the shore to be on a boat with me!

Bloody hell, make one suggestion about updating his profile and all I get in return is a load of insults eh?

But I admit, that was a slight exaggeration, they'd swim a maximum of about 800m, but not miles. Reason being I'd see em and make my way over myself

You should worry, I've got to put up with him for 10 days at the NEC from Thursday!
