I've done both with great results. You can get factory quality results from cans with patience and preparation no problem.
Over the counter cans from the likes of Halfords will do the job, but if you want it to be a lot more hard wearing, 2K cans can be bought online or from wherever mixes automotive paint near you. It's a 2 component paint with a hardener that you activate with a ring-pull, twist cap or similar. Once activated, the paints will go off in the can so you only activate them when you're ready to go.
Most recently I repainted a Mariner small outboard and the cowling isn't matched to the leg on those so you can get away with not using a direct colour match on them (custom colour matching adds to the cost of the cans). Previously when I repainted a Honda cowling, I had to go digging for the paint code so that it didn't look mismatched against the colour-coded leg.
A basic checklist of stuff you might need would include - - Plastic primer, high build/filler primer,
- Basecoat (the actual colour paint),
- Lacquer (ideally 2K again),
- Green scotchBrite pad (handy for keying the surface, roughly equivalent to P600 wet/dry paper),
- Heavier sandpaper grades if the plastic is damaged and needs smoothing out. P400 should do the job.
- P1200, P2000 paper for flatting the lacquer,
- Polishing compound for shining it back up after flatting.
You can get assorted sandpaper kits from the motor factors, Halfords etc. I use Farecla polishes but any decent cutting polish will work (T-Cut is common).
For the decals, you can get reproductions on eBay, Etsy, Amazon etc.

You don’t see Metzelers very often, scarce and interesting old SIBs.

The boat looks immaculate. I sold a similar A-frame for 400 quid. Seems like a bargain.

And not a SIB of course but close for those torn between a bigger heavier trailered SIB and a small RIB and again a heck of a lot of fun and potential here for little money: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166847999...mis&media=COPY

For whatever reason he ended and re-listed as an auction:

The seller seems to have held onto a 100% positive feedback so he must be doing something right... but that is as bad as I've seen for sale.

Transom coming away and a leak to the air floor. Can't be worth any more than £200 in that state.

If not linked here I've noticed it before as I remember being amused that he reckoned he'd had offers already around £850ish. Should have taken them.

Yes, the old Zodiacs are a liability sadly for the most part - TBH I only flag up outfits that are worth a look or unusual etc but could not resist the dirty old Honwave for a giggle...

Not a full SIB but perhaps a useful set of floor parts for someone doing mods, restoration, conversion etc. Seems a fair price.

The description says estimate to repair is 150 to worst-case 400. You'd spend 150 on glue/sundries alone, assuming the transom itself is still sound.

Not my kind of set up, but if you are into fishing and can get this for close to the starting bid it is a serious amount of kit.

That's a hard outfit to value. Must be over £5k of almost new kit... but in a combination of items that's really specific and literally ticks every "must have" box.
