Small inflatable
I am sure I started a thread about this ages ago, but I can't seem to find it now.
I am thinking about getting a small inflatable, which can potentially be folded up and put in the back of my car (grand scenic). Or left inflated and put on roof bars.
I want something with a hard transom, I dont like the idea of having an inflatable one, and I need it to take me, my partner and our two kids (6 and 2)
I think I need something between 3 and 3.5 meters, and I only want a small engine so the 6 year old can sit at the helm.
What sort of second hand boats should I looking for? I see some avons for between 80 and 150 on ebay... they look about the right size.. and then stick a 4-10 hp engine on them I think will be fine.
Also, has anyone put a zapcat (just boat, no engine) on the roof of car before? I don't have a driving licence... and my partner doesn't have a towing entitlement
Thanks for any help
Ben

You won't need a cat B+E to tow a zapcat

She has no towing entitlement at all though, I don't think she can tow anything?

Yes she can-take a read here:-
http://www.rib.net/forum/f49/require...ain-40699.html and read the PDF.
Or.... basically, the trailer can't weigh more than the car and the combination of the car and trailer can't have a maximum authorised mass of over 3500kg. (this will be the max loaded weight of the car, plus the max loaded weight of the trailer).

Oh, and she can tow an unbraked sub-750kg (loaded) trailer with any car that can legally tow one-for example even though a Disco (IIRC) has a MAM of 3500kg, she can still tow a 750kg unbraked trailer with one.

Hi, you've not been around much lately.
Four of us in this:-
http://www.rib.net/forum/f10/2-8m-zo...erc-40379.html
Was quite a squeeze at times, although my lads are a big bigger. The worst bit for kids is feeling a bit vunerable in a small boat if things get busy, especially as sitting on the tubes lowers them to a point where it's easy for the wash from other boats to come over the side, and other boats can look quite daunting from low down.
On the other hand, if used for a bit of fun when you don't mind getting wet etc, they are great fun.
Nasher.

I've been busy renovating, doing the garden and working... no time for boats trying to make excuses to get out more now, and just bought some jerry cans to make refueling easier and cheaper than going to hythe!
I like the boat, it matches the colour of my boat too... for some reason it looks smaller than 2.8m... but if you managed to get in with the two kids then it should be fine. I will talk to my girlfriend later and see what she says

Hi.
It's not actually for sale any more, we've decided to keep it for a while longer until we've been able to prove we can transport the Bombard we replaced it with in the RIB as easily.
You would however be very welcome to pop over and I'll blow it up on the lawn so you can all jump in and see how it feels.
Let me know.
Nasher.

I was thinking that the Avon 311 i've just bought would make a perfect paddling pool for my 2 year old.
If it keeps water out it should also keep it in!

It's far too much money for something in such a state, and with such an old engine.

Seen this one too Zodiac Inflatable 131, Evinrude 4hp 2 stroke outboard | eBay UK
So many around, but im guessing there are a reason some are cheap, and some not. From the advert, this one doesn't look too bad. But the boat has been up before, and didn't sell
