Sorry - it's a cleaning post - Even Toluene won't work.
I'm after an opinion on some staining on an Achilles I've just bought.
It was extremely grubby and I'm in the process of restoring it, the grey tubes have some up like new however the yellow tubes have marks and staining that I simply cannot seem to shift.
The worst of the stains seem to have been caused by the nylon ropes sitting against the tube as you can see the twisted pattern.
So far I've tried.
-Detergent with warm water
-Household Cleaner
-Cif
-August Race
-Magic Sponge (with all of the above)
-Toluene (this started to pull the yellow onto the rag but the stain remained).
So my question is, is there anything else that I should try, or should I just stop now and call it "Character"?

If you've tried Tuolene, you're possibly at the end of the line. Go easy with that stuff.
If its mould you can try Shmuffex. I've used Rib Shop's Rib Revive which is a general purpose cleaner and ive found it excellent. With most things, preventation is better than cure in terms of keeping tube material looking its best.

Thanks, I was thinking the same, when I got to Toluene it's time to bow out from cleaning further.

The Yellow tubes on my RIB suffer really badly with marks and stains, although they are still perfectly serviceable despite dating from 1998.
Rib Revive is basically TRF, Traffic Film Remover, which can be purchased in bulk from all sorts of places.
I've found over the years that it's the best balance of cost/effectiveness on my Yellow tubes and would be worth a shot.
In a similar cheapskate cost/effectiveness move I use Quarry tile sealer on the tubes afterwards which is similar to the higher priced marine products to protect tubes after cleaning.

Tried Fairy Power Spray? - not holding out much hope after the rest you've tried but you never know...

If toluene isn't shifting it then It's probably not getting any better. Painting the yellow sections may be an option?

Can I suggest you try "Shmuffex" before giving up hope. We have found it very effective particularly on yellow tubes. It's a chemical cleaner, so scrubbing hard won't make any difference. You need to give it time and usually several coats.
Regards
Steve
