SR4 Hull construction

Hi Guys,

I have an SR4 which has at some point in its past caught the trailer taking a gouge out of the hull. Are the hulls cored?

The deck and transom are cored with marine plywood.

The hull itself is not cored (solid grp).

Strakes / chines are cored with polyester putty.

Thanks for the reply. Could you define solid GRP?

Probably about 10mm overall.

2 layers of 1708 with a lot of chop in the middle maybe.

Have you found what looks like foam in there?

Hi Will,
thanks for the reply.
Mine is a 1988 boat with the moulded transom knees (no metal bars for transom support). I can't see any foam in the laminate, although there are lots of holes appearing as it is ground back ready for replacement material.

When we were doing my sons sr4 the only foam we found was in the kelson which had a foam core
We were surprised at how thin the boat was which I guess is why your finding holes where your grinding because the glass isn't as thick as your expecting and it's easy to grind through

Is that loose chopped strands or CSM? I have some 450 CSM in stock does the biaxial cloth have to be the same weight?
