Stealth taxes to put in on the Severn?

I'm a bit confused. What exactly do I need in order to be legit if I want to try my latest engine on the SIB on the lower tidal reaches of the Severn?

I've got boat insurance, and I've just paid £20 to register my SIB (T40 with a 30hp Yam). Am I correct in assuming that I also need a permit, and if so what do I need to choose in the drop down box where it talks about safety certificates? If the boat is fairly new does it come with compliance already or is this something else that needs paying for?

Where do you want to launch?
Thought the Severn was out of BW control once you get past Gloucester?

Not that far down. A couple of miles past Tewkesbury near Lower Lode. Is still tidal there I’ve been told.

I can’t help with the form exactly as I haven’t seen the options but open boats without complex systems (like gas) are exempt from the Boat Safety Scheme (required for use on canals and rivers). Temporary visitors are also not required to get one. It’s essentially a way to make sure houseboats are safe.

If it is, it's barely noticeable. The lower areas round there flood massively for weeks at a time.

I know, it's one of the most fertile places to grow stuff in the UK, presumably because the river periodically drops its goodness over the soil.

There's a pub at Lower Lode that'll let you use their nice concrete ramp for £5 and then you have a lovely deep 10 miles stretch down to Gloucester with a couple of pubs on the riverbank on the way down.

The chap Jed, who runs the boathouse there told me that this stretch is tidal (just) so in theory has no speed limit in force. He runs an ally johnboat with a 15 Mariner that he guns down there to keep up with the rowers so I guess he must know what he's talking about.

Can't wait to get it in again to be honest. Need to fix a rumbling wheel bearing on the trailer soon too.

Jobs....jobs....jobs....

I know the pub. Might have to drop the beast in there for a day

I always thought it was tidal at Lower Lode, and it does flood, but there is a weir at Maisemore and a sill in river on navigable side so say. Have been told it’s under authority rules and have been down there a few times and not seen any authority but they do seem to run out of Gloucester in boat
