Steering damper to zapcat

Hi all.

So now have the tohatsu on the zapcat running nicely at last. Ticks over really well and goes through the rev range and has stacks of power at top end and is pumping out a nice 37 knots flat out which is pretty good considering where it was and the hull etc.

No that I've started plying with it in some more lumpy conditions it really does snatch at the arms and it's a workout and a half just taking it for a quick spin. Every time the prop enters or leaves the water the tiller really pulls.

I have a car steering damper off ebay, apparently a replacement part for an 80's Mercedes which I've seen mentioned as the type used. The only thing is working out the best way to mount it or what part of the engine is strong enough to take it.

I have fitted a bungee system to the engine but doesn't do much to dampen steering. Any suggestions?

The Mercedes damper should work pretty well, much cheaper alternative to the hydraulic damper. Are you after more steering damping or to counter the torque steer?

Another thing worth mentioning is that the amount of cup on the prop has a big effect on torque steer, cupping is fine for racing but for normal use you might find a prop with less cup is easier to live with.
