Stocking starport things to tubes

Here's another Croolis question thread. I've searched forum but can't find.

What do we think about these sort of things, attaching to PVC?

Saw these after looking at this DIY bow canopy thread. Would use the starport things for that but also fishing rod holders.

I've had the similar Borika mounts on an Elling from Boatworld. Great system and I wouldn't hesitate to glue any of their mounts I wanted to the Aerotec.

But I'd use the proper glue type not peel and stick.

Sorry Croolis, what's the question?

If it's do we think they will stick, probably "yes", but until someone actually tries them who knows .

I use the same star port mounts, though not the peel & stick version. Mine are solid as a rock after glueing them with PolyMarine PVC glue and I'm able to use them for trolling heavy lures. I've used 3M VHB tape for loads of stuff in the past but there's no way I'd trust it to hold a rod, especially if your lure/bait got a bit hit.

Would one-part glue do for this? And can I use a bit of IPA for priming/cleaning the area instead of weighing out another 18 quid for what PolyMarine says I need?

I'd say it'll be better than 3M tape, but I'd still prefer 2-part glue. There's quite a lot of leverage on that joint when there's a rod in the holder so you'd only be tempting fate I reckon.

I'm 100% two part on patches, seams and repairs but the extra seat patches I fitted the other year which we sourced from Germany came with one part and instructions to use it. In truth it went on as well as two part and still showing no signs of letting go after many Nm with my weight bouncing on it in a chop.

So yep for non crucial jobs I'd consider one part glue... but perhaps not the free tubes of an uncertain age in with new SIBs.
