Often a good basic position for all engine types is 1.5 turns screwed out and then fine tune from there.... but don't worry if that isn't where yours ends up.

Do remember though... if any of the used gaskets are allowing an air leak which was the cause of this "lean sneeze"... as it's sometimes called... bear in mind you'll just be compensating for that gasket fault.

tried all that, appears to be set correctly , still making that sneeze!
I think I'll need to replace the gaskets and see how I get on. The manual does clearly say to replace them! Click image for larger version

Oh well at least you have access to the mixture if needed in the future.

Hi fenlander, took the boat out for a spin just there. Engine is going perfect at all revs. Couldn't get it to sneeze at all. Maybe a good blast was what it needed ?!

Anyway thanks for all your help

Excellent result... despite being somewhat unexpected.

Hi Steve welcome to the forum.

You should do all the settings below with the motor in water not on muffs.

I don't have access to a manual for your motor but a generic initial setting for the idle mixture would be screw in until it seats then screw out two turns. Note it's always useful to count the turns it screws in from how it is now so you have a reference position.

Start up until warm... you may have to screw in the idle speed screw a bit to keep it running for now. Once warm reduce the idle speed screw to a speed just above stalling. Then turn the mixture screw in and out to find the points at which it starts to run badly. Set to a mid position between these two points and that should be your idle mixture setting.

Ideally you need a rev counter/tach to set the idle to the makers spec which should be around 900-950rpm (a generic figure for most smaller motors). Note this speed setting should be made with the motor in water and in gear.

Now go through the mixture procedure again as the setting can change a bit for any idle speed change.

When all this is done just check it doesn't hesitate when the throttle is snapped open. If so setting the idle mixture about 1/4 turn richer (turned out) will usually resolve.

Not quite sure what you're asking regarding the choke??

HTH

David
