Suzuki or Honda 8hp 4 stroke?

Ok, need to replace an 8hp 4 stroke outboard and have been made very good offers for both an 8hp Suzuki and an 8hp Honda outboard (new). Both dealers nearby, good service etc.

The problem is I have no experience with either brands newer engines, only the old 2 strokes. Running a bigger ETEC on my other boat. Does anyone have any preferences or recommendations? Are there any major differences between the two brands these days? On paper they appear to be about the same.

Cheers.

The honda is the heaviest you'll find at 42KG dry.
The suzuki is 39.5KG

The honda has a 222cc displacement whereas the suzuki is 208cc.

If mariner is an option, they are 38KG with 208cc with gear select on the throttle as a twist one way for forwards and the other for reverse.

Both honda and suzuki have good repuations, although if everything was the same I'd go for honda personally.

Remember that the 4 stroke 8's and 9.9's are the same engine so if you can I'd go for the 9.9.

I'm sure it might depend upon your dealer, but I have found Suzuki after sales services to be excellent, above and beyond what I would have expected, however I haven't had personal experience of Honda to directly compare....

Good stuff, cheers. Seems like I'll just toss a coin then! Or maybe see if I can bargain a little more at the dealers… it's a good time of year to buy.
