The perfect SIB doesn't exist

..but you can find one that ticks your own personal boxes - the rest is a compromise

I've had the Boatworld Carbon Pro a while now, here's some thoughts while on the water. Great boat for my needs but certainly not perfect. Would love to hear about the compromises you made when buying a boat.

Every boat is a compromise at some level.

I think the major plus is that there are different SIBs to bias to every persons need. And they're available for prices cheaper than similar Zodiac models of 10-15yrs ago.

Buy the best for your needs then do the mods to suit you that’s about as near as you’ll get

If you want to use you boat from a car the Honwave T38 ie 3. With 2 stroke 10 or 15 hp

Or

If you want to trailer then the Honwave T35 or T40 AE3 with 20 hp 4 stroke

Neither of those sibs would have suited my needs. Which confirms every boat is a compromise.

Have you ever tried one. I wonder what needs they would not suite. Looking at your videos etc you seem to do the same as us and those Honwaves are perfect for us and generally lighter than your excel

The T38 ie2 was very much on my short list until I actually saw one in the flesh.
It is much narrower internally than the SD360 but the biggest factor is the internal sloping deck. I wanted a flat deck because of Isla, my dog. I spent a fortune on my last dog with torn cruciates.

When I actually tried a T38 I was really impressed with the performance, which is better than the SD360, handles better and it's quicker. However, I didn't think it's was as stable as the SD360 and I didn't like the water thats at the bottom of the deck most of the time.

So as I said, the SD360 is a comprimise for me, useability over a slightly better performance.

It's each to there own. Like most I have one boat (and a kayak) so it has to do a multitude of things and compromise on them all. On the other hand you have, is it 12?? boats, one for every occasion, so the word compromise should never be in your vocabulary.

Got to agree with Steve.
The honwaves are cracking boats but not for us either.
The Volaire 390 though a lump and really needs a 20hp to push her along at 22mph (fast enough for us), feels roomier and I feel the floor is drier and better to stand on.

We were out in some choppy conditions with a more experienced boating friend, and he was in a Frib the next size up from donnys, which really took my fancy, (much to the dismay of the better half) although didn't appear so roomy inside.

Then again he was taking an interest in how sea worthy our set up is!

Thats not to say I wouldn't buy a honwave or other brand further down the line if our needs change.

So yeah I think its all down to personal taste and experience, and as the title says....perfect doesn't exist.
