Tobin sibcat at Costco

New cheap Tobin Sports 335 catamaran available at Costco.

https://www.costco.co.uk/Sports-Spas...-Set/p/1819498

Budget catamaran at a budget price! Not actually seen it in the flesh, and a few iffy details evident on the pics, but light at 30kg and certainly not overpriced.

Evidently in stock at our local store and £20 cheaper. Tempted to take a look later.

It's a bit more expensive than the AquaMarina one, but I think I'd have more faith in the transom mounting on the AquaMarina tbh. The Tobin is supposed to be rated to 15HP but I feel like that's a very small surface area where it's mounted to the tubes. Their pics show what looks like an old 2 stroke 4 or 5hp Yamaha too. That seems a bit more realistic.

In fairness not by much though. Cheaper in fact than most Aqua Marina outlets with the exception of one eBay seller knocking Aircats out at £450 delivered.

Agree transom fixings do look a bit unusual and lightweight but in fairness Takacats are held on with two rolls of glued pvc, which appear to work. At least this little cat is going down the open transom route.

Apart from transom fixings, other concerns picked up from photos would be only the one air chamber per sponson, rubbing strake seems not to incorporate a water check drip moulding, air deck looks to be attached directly to tubes with no separate floor membrane, deck looks a tad narrow, lack of any towing D rings at bow, and assuming glued not welded seams. Fitting aftermarket transom wheels will also be a challenging diy bodge/mod.

Plus points would include it has got an open transom, sponsons appear to be large ish diameter, u/s of deck to u/s of sponsons looks a decent depth and it looks to have full length keel rubbing strips.

It is cheap though and the details probably reflect this.

Even cheaper now. Reduced to £330 online or £360 in store.

Working out at a hundred quid a metre, what’s not to like.

Certainly well down into ‘no brainer’ territory now and may even go lower who knows, although doubtful. No matter though as protected by Costco’s 30 day price match policy…already fired this twice now, so not lost out.

Not floated ours yet, but build quality up there with most £1000 plus Chinese offerings and sat fully inflated for over three weeks with no loss in pressure. It’s even light and compact enough to stow aboard your mothership as a tender.
