Tohatsu 9.8 2 Stroke + Elling KB350 - Best Match

Well I am delighted that I have managed to buy a 9.8 Tohatsu smoker this morning and I am just about to push the button for an Elling KB350 as this looks to be the perfect match and best suited for our uses.
Any thoughts or alternative suggestions?

No... go for it... should make a great combo. Going back a bit our Tohatsu 9.8 2-stroke pushed our 3m Hypalon Zodiac well as long as we kept to 2 adults.

Did you go for a new one?

No, its an older motor but I'm very used to 2 strokes and quite like the idea of the weight and simplicity. It will be a new Elling.
I was all set on Honwave but wasn't blown away by the QQ issues. I am impressed by the handling and easy planing of the Elling. It will be perfect for our all round use I'm sure.

Another major factor was the weight issue and ease of launching.I have just sold our speedboat after 18 years of happy boating. It got to be such a chore to find anywhere to get in and out of the water quickly that the missus was fed up with it (She loved being out on it though!) I ruled out the 15's as our racing about days have been completed and now we are looking forward to a bit of exploring and non serious fishing.

Yep an Elling and 26kg 9.8 can be dropped in anywhere.. only need a 12l tank compared with our 25l for our 15hp... quite envious of the ease with which you'll handle that outfit.

Thanks Fen. I have spent an awful lot of time reading the posts on here and have found them incredibly helpful. You are all quite right in that SIB ownership is all about compromise. I hope I have made an informed decision.

This is a Youtube account from 10+ years ago which I've lost access to. But this video shows our girls in their first semi-solo outing heading out to The Sound of Jura beside self and Mrs F in our 4m grp craft of the time.

We had great fun with that Tohatsu 9.8 and small Zodiac as whether launching over rock or down beaches it was so easy to manage.

There is a saying about cameras that the best one is the one you have with you... and that outfit followed that line of thinking.
