Tohatsu 9.8 2T shorty on Ebay
Linky
Nothing to do with me, might suit someone in SIB Club
It has to be a 2006 as the 2005 was silver/grey and they weren't for general sale in 2007.

Around a grand, hope so as I paid £800 for mine, but it is mint and worth every penny I'd say.
Lovely engine...

Nah, you're out of touch... these things hold their value better than even Vipermax's. The restriction on sales of 2str since 2007 means that good condition models from just before the ban are sought after by people wanting simplicity, portability etc. This particular model has a very good reputation.

Thanks for this very interesting and sounds very similar symptoms. We have cleaned carbs, spark plugs and fuel. Turns out only one of the spark plugs is sparking. Unfortunately the CD unit is rubber sealed so you can't open it up and fix it. There is also an earthing problem and looks like moisture has got into the unit. Safer to replace as next time there may not be people around to tow me back.
Still interesting link.

No probs, perhaps just keep your old CD unit until your sure is no good, if your problems carry on at least you will know there is money to get back for it.

Most Engines are reliable, if well maintained.
The only engine i know that tends to be unreliable is the 8M-Betepok, but thats a Soviet engine and no-one sane would buy those anyway ;D

Yes this make and model has an excellent reputation, but like anything it will depend on how it’s been used and maintained.
I bought mine from a Rib.netter around 18 months ago, so far it has been a peach but it was/is in near perfect condition, it was expensive but you do get what you pay for.
I had to buy it with a boat and sell the boat on; it seemed worth the effort because it was such a nice engine.
Hope that helps and good luck with your search.

Yeah... the reputation is pretty bad for those, mainly used as anchors i guess....
Here a funny article in english about it, title tells it all! "An attempt to make a real engine from Veterok"

Though, i have to say, I own a Neptun 23 and it can compete with my 2001 Merc 20 HP on fuel consuption and speed and it is lighter... it just needs so much oil and is so loud.. but reliable like sh*t.
Only the Betepoks sucked, most other Soviet engines were okay.

A 3.1-3.4 metre SIB with that engine would be just lovely and easy to transport and set up even on your own.
