Hi everyone, I'm after some advice on filling holes in my transom and what kind of paint to use when filled and sanded.
I was hoping there was perhaps a two part filler which I could apply, sand and then black spray paint to match the bombard aerotec transom colour if possible.
Had a bit of a disaster in the bombard aerotec on my last voyage.
A wave caught me off guard when trying to attach the transom wheels and ripped the bottom stud out on the transom.
I've never liked the transom wheels on the aerotec as they're a bit of a pain when trying to attach as the waves hit you so I've now bought some up and over wheels which i'm going to fit before next season.
I'd be mixing epoxy (2 part filler as you suggest) with some colloidal silica and a tiny bit of black paint, to make a black filler. Fill the hole flush. Don't paint the whole lot. You'd be painting over the rubber.
Others may fill without colouring the filler (it will be white or brown depending on if you use silica or wood fibre). Maybe they would fill to the wood level and then use sikka flex to fill the hole in the black hypalon/PVC. Will your new leg cover the hole?

I use two part marine epoxy and wood flour (fine sawdust). I have mixed in powdered graphite for bottom coating abrasion resistance and that makes it black too.
wood plugs tight fit soaked in gorilla glue 100% waterproof and swells to 4-5 times its volume wet the hole that sets the glue off leave the wood plug just below the surface and skim off with sikaflex [use hard wood plugs] you might get a bit of spillage so tape off the hole.
