Transom seal

I purchased a sea search 17 months ago,so I’m out of my guarantee with the seller.
The problem is the transom seal that goes from tube to tube is coming off and I can see the ply wood.the boat has only been in the water for no more than 10 hours from new.
I’m no expert but that can’t be right ,should the boat seller be responsible or the manufacturer and where do I stand.
Any advice

Was there a makers warranty longer than a year?

They are not a brand I know well but by chance last year I was in a dealers where the transom had come unglued on one at under a year old.

Could you not just glue it back yourself?

They are made by the Barrus group.
I could do it myself but having paid over a grand for the boat I’m a bit pissed off
I don’t see why these companies should be allowed to sell faulty goods
Thanks for your reply Fenlander

Talk to Barrus before opening a debate on the internet. I've found that they can be very reasonable with "unexpected" issues.

Technically the company who sold it to you are responsible for any faults rather than the company who made it (although the place you bought it can go back to their supplier and so on back to the factory in China!

As Willk alludes to though, you may get more traction with the brand directly. Warranty periods and what the “sale of goods act” (and it’s more modern replacements) expect are often not aligned. BUT I wouldn’t be surprised if questions are raised about how it has been stored if things are coming unglued.

Good news is if you end up DIYing - glue is cheap, and whilst it will be time consuming it’s doesn’t need special tools etc.

Thanks for your reply Poly.
I have contacted the seller and he’s a bit slow in coming forward I did mention that the boat is not fit for purpose.
He said all I can do is mention it to the sales rep who will see what the next steps are.
As for storage it has been on a brand new trailer and cover from the day it was received.

I've just looked around and all the dealers selling this boat refer to a "2yr Barrus backed warranty" or "2yr factory backed warranty". So wonder why you believe yours is just a year?

A photo would be interesting. Is it just the top plastic capping coming off the transom if yours has that... or the fabric that joins the transom to tubes coming unglued?
