using the boat to film a bit surfing

Untitled on Vimeo

Injured my knee surfing so used boat to film from instead. A bit tricky filmimg with one hand and 1 hand on the throttle to avoid getting caught by a wave

Boats not new anymore so just leaving it inflated outside in the ice and snow this winter on the trailer. More likely to take it out when there is a nice day that way. Filled a box with cod in about half and hour the other week. Good time of year for them.

Good video! Must of been a pretty consistent break to allow you to get those shot, some looked like you were pretty close to getting caught inside. I'm always amazed when I watch videos of Teahupoo how close they can get the boats.

I know it's a dirty word on here but jetskis with a driver are the best thing for getting surf shot.

Excellent footage - would have loved to have seen the unedited clip at 1.17.

Get yourself a GoPro then you'll have two hands free

Like it!
Used the GoPro camera before and they are really good, especially with the wide angle lens.

Great shots of the surf. How cold is the water? Makes me feel bad for whining about the water temperature here right now!

The GoPro is a fun toy. But it creates a low quality, low resolution image that is good for online videos and not much else. The wide angle lens is great for capturing things close at hand. Anything that is distant isn't going to be very visible. A cheap video camera with a decent optical zoom lens will give you a much better result. Lots of used go pro's for sale here in California. Interesting results mounted to helmets and boards, but even the stills aren't good enough to print out and put up anywhere. Some what disappointing if you don't have realistic expectations.

I just got a Nikon J1 to put in a small molded housing for boat and swim shots. 10 fps with autofocus and 1080i60 video (though not for long duration). Can't wait to try it out.

Post more pictures!

few pics of me surfing same break, there is a well defined chanel at the edge of the reef so can get closed to break. Water is ok just now prob around 8 centigrade. Main problem is there is a river right at the break and later on in winter the fresh water gets cold and start getting ice floating into line up. Use a 6mm excel suit keeps warm enough .Had one of the orignal go pro cameras, video was ok. this video was takin on a cheap kodak play sport.
