What is it?

Hello I have recently found this great forum.
I also recently bought an old Avon 3.8m inflatable (grey hypalon) but cannot identify the model. It has an inflatable keel, 4 removable floor boards and one narrow fixed where the hull kicks up, 2 removable seats, a spray dodger and A4 volcano type valves into 3 hull chambers. And has Avon Sportboat on a red oval glued to each pontoon. It came with a 25hp Evinrude that I have dated as 1976 and as it has compression and spark hopefully works.
Sorry I know a picture is worth a thousand words but at present work commitments mean I will not get at the boat till after christmas.
Is there a site that has photos/specifications of old Avons so I can identify my boat?

Thanks
Adrian

Sound like an Avon S380? I can't remember the exact models but I think the S was for sports boat then the 3 digits its length.
Mine had a plate on the transom which told you all of this.
The boat I had was ancient but it took me about 20 mins with some soapy water and a foam scourer and it looked like new!

3.8 metres = 12' 6", which I think would make it either an S300 or an S400.

The main (visible) difference between them is the S300 has a removeable bow dodger whilst the S400's is integral.

There are details visible in this (finished) ebay auction, Item number: 320013698982:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=320013698982

The S400 is slightly heavier than the S300, and can take a 45HP rather than a 30HP outboard.

I'm not sure what the number refers to - It's not length as my S250 is 3.2 metres long. I think it may be to do with maximum outboard power, as S250 = 25HP, S300 = 30HP, S650 = 65HP. Doesn't work for the S400 though

Cheers

Chris

I'm not sure - as the S300 and S400 have the same external length, I would assume they would have the same internal length?

Apart from the maximum outboard allowed and a few 'trim' differences, the only difference between these two boats seems to be that the S400 is 2lb heavier than the S300?

Cheers

just been looking through an old early 70s avon catalouge, though i cannot tie your details up with any particular model the nearest one is a mk 111 at 12feet 6 inches or 383 cm long and is rated at 25 hp max ,do you know the diameter of the tubes it should be about 16 inches or 40cm .

I can't help with the identification but if it comes with two pontoons, I'm not surprised it's heavier!

And welcome to Ribnet, by the way!

Thanks Chris123 it looks similar to the S300 but instead of inflatable seat it has 2 red fibreglass seats that clip in across the boat.

The S300 had 2 red fibreglass seats as standard - the inflatable seat was an option.

Cheers
