What is the correct knot?

Hello,

Please advise the more experienced. How to properly tie the anchor rope on an inflatable dinghy (Honwave T38 IE)? Imagine I have a 30m long anchor rope, but I only need 10m of rope at the anchor point. What knot to use if I need to tie the rope elsewhere than at the end? Obviously I can't use a cleat hitch on a this boat.

Thank you for your advice.
Jakub

Probably is no definitive correct knot, but a simple and easy one to put a loop in the middle of a rope would be the Alpine Butterfly Loop.

You could then use a carbine snap hook (or preferably a carbine screw hook) and clip this onto one of the bow d-rings on the inside of the tubes.

Yup, I’d use either a butterfly loop/artillery loop or a bowline in a bight.

Thank you, chipko! I'm still thinking if there's a solution without a carbine snap hook. Bowline knot is not a solution because I would have to push 20m of rope through the D ring. But Alpine Butterfly Loop looks fine. But with carbine snap hook.

You can do a bowline in a bight, mid rope & no snap hook required.

I'd be going with the alpine butterfly, but a double figure of 8 (or 9) on the bight would do it too.

I would go with a doubled figure 8 knot. It's quick to tie anywhere inline that you want the knot and it has good leverage for undoing while also not having any harsh folds that wear the rope out. Almost any knot will do the job, but some knots are a bit of a pig to untie.

If you use any snap links, carabiners etc, make sure they're rated for use in water, particularly if you're using screw lock versions. The threads can seize up and make them very difficult to open.
