What motor is best for honwave t40 sib ??

As per title reall,, im in the process of buying a s/s tiller operated motor ,, just not to sure of hp, im new to this ,,lol i know the transome will take a 3o hp,,, my mate reckons that this will scare the cack out of me,, any advice apreciated fellas ,, thanks Timo

Well I you can always throttle down, but you can't throttle up if you fit a smaller outboard.

HA i did ,,im used to blistering a suzuki gsxr around the lanes,,, he potters around in a vw caddy FFS ...lol this is a family boat too not just my li`l toy . thanks timo

You could always go for a nice 15hp Timo but to hell with that GET A 30hp for the white knuckle ride

Hazard a guess at maybe 14-16mph (fib.net depending on the weight in the boat and sea state........

Its only a guess buy yeah Get a 30hp.

I use a 2 stroke mariner 25hp and it goes like a rocket with me and a mate in the boat

Lent a 15hp merc for my 4m sib,thick alloy flooring,quite a heavy boat,and engine was a 4 stroke so quite heavy also,all me fishing gear ,my mates a lump and we had easy 16knts maybe more?got a 2 stroke 10hp now ,so be lighter and hope to get the same ,or more?

Ive been offered a 2004 35hp 4 stroke at £1300 but it weighs in at 72 kg ,,, and i think thats too much for the transome

Does the weight of the engine matter? 30hp is a bit lumpy to carry any distance. 20hp would go along nicely and be a lot lighter.
Speed on water is different to speed on land. My zap cat used to get up to 40mph or thereabouts and it was a real brown trousers ride even on the flat. My rib (30hp mariner 2 stroke) at 24.3mph (gps) flat out feels plenty quick enough, and would probably be the limit for small kids - they tend not to like getting cold wet and scared like adults do! And that boat will def weigh a lot more than a sib with its console and bits and bobs.

My 25hp weighs in at 52kg which is about my limit for lifting onto the transom and launching on my own. Will you always have someone to help with the setting up and launching or even better a trailer?

I bout a Tohatsu M40C Outboard Motor Engine 2005 Tiller Steering today for £1300 mint condition (sound ok?). i cant use a trailer as i pull a caravan around ..that why i had a collapsible boat ,,, i`ll always have a helping hand ,, this motor only weighs 59 kg too . so ..Im off to blackrock sands in the morning to try her out,,,
