That's interesting. Do they have a decompression system?
My Suzuki EFI does, and, as I say above, it's very easy to start. I've read that this makes a considerable difference, but I don't have one without decompression to compare it with.

Yes they do have automatic decompression system on the rope start models.
Unless we have a duff example, I’m guessing it’s the flywheel alternator not generating sufficient power to the high pressure fuel pump/injectors without a concerted long hard pull. Hot or cold the same effort is required to start.
Certainly takes considerably more effort to fire up than a Suzuki efi.
