When only a partial repair(regluing)on a SIB is needed?
Hello all members !
I have recently purchased a Zodiac Futura S Mark II 2001, unfortunately with hidden vices discovered after buying ... The front of the floor on one side and the other is detached from the pontoons on a portion of about 1 meter each. At one end of the transom is an air bubble under the fabric , as seen in the pictures.
There is also a small detachment of the fabric above of one edge of the transom . The PVC is in very good conditions, it is seen that it is not discolored by the sun, and the rest of the boat is very well glued. The portions that are now totally split are at first partial, then I have forced them to detach totally. The rest I could not break them forcefully. I guess the advice of some members here to detach the floor and stern completely and then to reglue under the optimal known conditions of course , but is this work always necessary? Does it only matter how old the boat is, as well as the deterioration of its glue, or the conditions of using the boat (time spent on water and in the sun, storage conditions ...)?
Obviously, no one can tell what will happen in the future with some partial soldering, or how things will evolve in the other parts of the boat still unaffected. I also ask those who have done only partial soldering, how did the regular parts behave and how did the parts that were good at the initial stage evolved?
Can we anticipate that next summer will be split other parts that are now OK considering only the age of the boat, and not its current state?
I ask these questions to be understood by the skilled or experienced, to avoid laborious recovery of the entire boat when it is not necessary. Regards ,
