Where to go

I'm now getting desperate to go out on first outing.

Being my first sib I just want to have a thrash around having some fun.

Anyone recommend a lake or body of water where there are no restrictions in or around Derbyshire.

You could try Beeston Marina in Nottingham. You can launch into the Trent there, iirc there is a small stretch that you can let rip on, but it's only a short stretch. If you ring & ask them if you can bring your boat down for some pre season "testing" they might oblige. Apart from that I haven't a clue. Eddie, the mechanic down there is a top bloke btw & it wouldn't harm you to get in his good books[emoji106]
Failing that, if you want an easy launch & a sheltered stretch of water, go to the Menai & launch at Ty Calch

Rutland's a no, controlled by the Rutland Sailing Club.
"Inboard or Outboard engines are not allowed on Rutland Water. Electric Motors may be used on cruisers or tenders if required"
http://www.rutlandsailingclub.co.uk/...k-Feb-2017.pdf

The only outboards are on the safety boats or the hire boats of the fishery.
I believe Grafham is the same - they both fall under Anglian Water.

I think the water you're thinking of near Rugby is Draycote. Boat usage controlled by The Draycote Water Sailing Club & again, the only outboards are the safety boats & the fishery's hire boats.

Shardlow Marina have a slipway and its £15 for the day, its on the back water part of the River Trent so as long as theres nobody fishing you should be ok to have a play.

Cheers Glyn

have a word with the watersports centre at collwick outside nottingham we use to go on the rowing part years ago to do engine tests.
also have a word with walter at central marine services in ilkeston they go somewhere to test engines & boat set ups 01159442442.

other than that pick a day and go up to whitby if its too rough you still have about a mile of river speed limit of course but a least you can have a cruse about & fish & chips to round the day off. check out the wheedale hotel live webcam it looks out over the bay whitby to sandsend to check the surf

just thought laneham near retford has a water sky club on the trent might be worth a ring round

How big's the SIB. I sometimes launch free by putting my 3.1 over the side at Kegworth shallow lock. It's a struggle with a heavy engine though. That allows a short slow trip up the Soar with some exploring possible, and a good little cruise down to the Trent near Trent Lock. From there, you can go right up to just below Sawley and if there are no boats or fishermen about, you can get away with planing along the centre of the river. If you can't put your SIB over the side, then you can launch for a fee at Redhill Marina, only a short distance downstream fro Kegworth.

Plenty of other places to launch on the Trent further downstream.
