Which shaft length?

Hi!

Currently have a Bombard Typhoon 470 that I need to repower. Bombard website says long shaft, but the transom is only 15” which should receive a short? All other smaller typhoon are short shaft.

The last motor which died was a long shaft and I felt a bit of drag, but I’m new to board in general so not sure?

Any thoughts?

I don't know these boats in particular but if yours is older they could have changed the shaft length requirement... it does happen sometimes. Also yours could perhaps have been cut down... does it look like it at all?

I see the 420 was short shaft.

Yeah all signs point to short shaft except the website. I like to trust the manufacturer here, I guess it’s possible that the newer ones have a higher transom? This is about 8 years old
