Have you purchased anything yet Paul?
I recently purchased a honwave 38. Lovely bit of kit. Just about manageable with one person in and out of the car. Feels quality. Got a yamaha 9.9hp 4 stroke which is a beautiful beautiful engine but maybe not quite got the ooomph I'd like. Easy to lift in and out the car at 40kg and fits easily across the boot. The launching wheels make it fairly easy to get in and out the water. Have had 2 adults 3 kids in and felt very secure and steady. Not been out to sea yet though would like to try a bit of coastal. Good luck

Hello, thanks for that info.
The answer is no I suppose. I’ve looked at a lot of Honwaves as they get a great review. I’ve been in touch with Terry Wright at Excell and I’ve almost made my mind up to get a new Volaire 390 with a 20hp Suzuki engine. I’ve been looking for a second hand one daily but there’s nothing about. I was hoping I wouldn’t need to buy new as obviously I have to get all the other bits and pieces that are needed.
I’m rally going to have to make a decision in the next few weeks as we are hoping to get away in August for at least a couple of weeks.

Keep your eye on the eBay SIB topic, some good outfits lately. The QS and 15 2 smoke ending in a day or so is a perfect all round very manageable SIB outfit and perfect to see if SIBing is for you with no loss if sold on.

my first sib help needed
Hello I am new here and am also quite new to SIBS. Been researching as much as I can and came to the conclusion that the best SIB for my needs (fun with my two teenage kids on lakes rives and sea) would be the
Honwave T32-IE2 Air V Floor (3.2m)
Due to the air floor and v shaped keel. Disappointed that it is twice the price of AIR V TYPE FLOOR 330 sold by boat world but out of stock and that it only has 1 bench.
I need one that I can pack away at the end of the day as no trailer and not much storage. So hoping to have something that weighs a max of 40-45kg
with carry bag.
Help needed with suggestions about finding the right inflatable at a reasonable price even if that means second hand and any additional tips very welcome. Thanks great article for novices like me.

Thanks oldman
Interesting no this one was not on my radar but looks the part. Only thing is that it is similarly priced to a honwave without the brand. Would be a bit concerned about lack of track record. Thanks

Morning everyone, I’m setting off in the next hour or so to pick up my new excel Volaire from Terry at Excell boats in Tamworth. Super excited!
I’ll let you know how I get on. Probably lots of newbie sib owner questions coming this way.

Fairly new to SIbs myself but I would suggest the 35 would be a better size. You won't regret extra space but will miss it if you don't have it!
Also, one bench seat will probably be absolutely fine. People can and will like sitting on the tubes.
Good luck

Sorry to ask a basic question but am new to this forum. Reading what others have put, Is the 15hp weight differential of a 4 stroke Tohatsu (6kg) over a 9.8hp manageable in the real world. I will be putting my 3.5m air v floor SIB and engine in the boot of my car and often only myself lugging it about.
The appeal to me of the 15hp is it seems a lot more power for only a couple of hundred £s' more but wanted to check the reality of lugging 43 kilos from my boot.

There are quite a few variables - car boot design (lip/height etc?), your personal fitness/weight/age/build - many of us on here are not getting any younger and have 'dodgy' backs!
Outboard engines are just about the most unwieldy, unbalanced, pesky lumps to balance, lug about and lift with all the weight up top.
For many the lighter 2 stroke 15 hp engines are about the limit at circa 30 to 35 kg.
10 kg on top make more than the difference would suggest in difficulty to manhandle.
I could lift a relatively huge weight as a 20 something - a few decades on I need my son's help to realistically manhandle a Merc 15hp 2 stroke in and out of a flat Landy boot and up a steepish pebbly beach.

Many thanks Max - I am leaning towards a 9.8 in that case as I am getting no younger either and i am worried it may take the fun away a bit. I have a 4x4 so high up boot.

echo what max says a 15 is the way to go IMO 6kg hardly noticeable with such an awkward load and 50% more power a no brainer especially when you start loading kit you soon lose the performance of the 10. Try to get the mind set of not lifting and carrying and more on the use of Aids like a purpose built trolley which slides into the boot on a rack or board so you only lift the partial weight and wheel to the boat the added peace of mind to on not stumbling and dropping it

Yes and to echo Jeff in return don't lift but slide/wheel or rig something to make it easier - or as I do rope in the family - we leave the engine on it's trolly and lift that together.
