Arrived this afternoon. Conditions look OK for tomorrow, but the rest of the week - who knows?

A problem at work on Monday meant I've got all week off so we toyed with the idea of bringing Bunree forward.
After checking a few forecasts eventually decided against it.
Fingers crossed for you it turns out good and I made the wrong call

Enjoy your holiday up there Steve. Is there a slip at Tralee bay or will you launch off the beach? Not sure if he's still there but I'm sure the Tralee Bay chip shop guy was a sibber... Paul maybe?

Anyway remember the golden rule of Scottish hols... as soon as you see sun take a pic of everything so you have a backup set to insert into reports later in the week.

Thanks David. It's a decent concrete slip, no Dornie cobbles to snap a leg on!
I'll pop into the chip shop and see if he's still there.

Is it busy at all there this time of year? I appreciate that "busy" is a relative thing - I took the SIB to Ullswater at whitsun with my lad and that was fun, but annoying (of course, I myself don't count as someone swelling the numbers, it's everybody else that's the problem ) . SUPs are the modern scourge of the waterways lol .

I've been watching the Youtube channel with the old boy who favours Etive, forget the name. Looks smashing, but I'll wait for a bigger engine.

The weather gods have been kind i'sh today, dry but breezy. Trip to Oban and down the east side of Kerrera. Just had mouls, frits and a wine at Kerrera marina, had to wait to get served until the one other person bought a pint! Very quite, seen two ribs and a few yatchs, but not much else on the water.
You obviously went to the Pooley Bridge end of Ullswater, always busy there. Next time you go launch up at Glenridding so much nicer.

So Ullswater was chock-a-block in the half-term holiday? Which means it's probably even worse during the kids summer holidays...

Pity, because I was thinking of having a few days there in August.

That's good to know, cheers.

Au contrare, I was at Side Farm campsite down the south end, which was a nice spot, but bit of a steep bank down to their lakeside beach thing that was a bit much for me and my 11 year old to manhandle the boat bag down to (even had I brought my sack truck I don't think it would have worked).

So instead we went around to the ferry bit but the car park was rammed out, and we ended up driving around looking for one of those little car parks dotted around the lake until we got a spot, and put the boat together in the car park, pulling it across the road to the water. The whole thing was a ball ache, mostly due to the vast amont of ppl about. Of course, you will know stuff I don't know.

What I did do though, as we were leaving, was check out a camp site up at the Pooley Bridge end (we went for a walk up that hill with the stone structure thing on the top, forget the name). Camp site was Cross Dormant, they have a field across the road from the main camp site with a nice little launch point (would be generous to call it a slipway) that I would look at were I to go up there again. That end of the lake looked no busier than the bottom end, though the roads were more country lane where I went and so more difficult to drive on.

Again, you'll know stuff about the area that I don't .

Unfortunately, like most places especially the Lake District, getting there early is key.
Did you take a look at park foot campsite?

When I tried to book it a month or two in advance it was no chance, booked out. Side Farm and the other one at the north end were both turn up without booking.
