Zodiac Classic Mkii C

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a Zodia Classic mkii Compact sib airdeck (very good condition), age not known.

Has anyone got any knowledge of these boats? For comparison I could buy a new Excel or Honwave for the same money.

Many thanks,

Richard

Welcome to the forum.

Nothing wrong with Zodiac Classic - it's a very capable SIB. Welded seams, PVC (Zodiac use Strongan Duotex material). Personally I like the HD version (aluminium floor).

Depends on when it was made and how well it was looked after. On the transom there should be a build plate with year of manufacture - so that's a good place to start. No reason for that to be missing as it's riveted on.

Goes without saying, see it in person, viewing condition and pressures, etc. Wear points can be the transom, especially if glued areas are opening. This boat also has an inflatable keel tube, again a wear point used to be the fold near the transom.

I used to run a Zodiac MkIIC GT with a Yamaha 25hp - and it was rated for 40hp. Not sure where Zodiac think you're going to source a 35hp from - according to their data sheets?

Plenty of knowledge on Excel and Honwave.

They are nice boats. With that said the tubes are thermo welded and don't fail, but the floor is glued on and every 10-18 years or so the glue WILL fail. It is a lot of hours to fix it up proper. I have redone the floor and transom on a 1992 Zodiac MKII Futura Sport GT, but I got it in trade as the floor had failed. If I was paying money and could get a new boat for the price...I'd buy the new boat.

Thanks for the replies, very useful, I think I'm going to pass on the Zodiac Classic and go for a new or nearly new boat.
This is my first boat and I don't have the time to be re-gluing floors at the minute.

All the best

I should have stated this info too, it took me about 40 hours to get the boat, plus many modes, to running condition, and about $100 in glue. Buy new or slightly used, and spend your precious time enjoying being on the water

BTW there is a whole thread on launching wheels LOL https://www.rib.net/forum/f50/beachm...ion-89002.html

Thanks all.

40 hours to properly refurb a floor is a serious time investment.
Good to know aa I had also been looking at a partly refurbed Mkii GT C for sale, but realistically this would be a no go for me.
