Zodiac Futura Top Speed

What is the top speed of your Zodiac Futura?

I have a 2016 Futura MK2C with a 15hp Mercury which will push it 16-17 mph with the kids and 20-21 mph with just me according to the Garmin GPS.

Thinking of a Evinrude E-Tec 30hp as the old 15hp just struggles a little with more than one in the boat. This engine is a 1989 off my old Futura Junior.

Sorry if this topic has been gone over to death before.

35 mph solo with a big prop at max hp. Also, weight distribution needs to be perfect. Front 2/3 of the boat should not be touching the water on plane.

RIBase
Used to run a MKIICGT (aluminium floorboards) which was rated to 40hp, but ran it with a Yamaha 25hp 2-stroke (model 25D). Best weight ratio in my opinion. Also was easiest to manoeuvre at top speed with 2-up. If your going solo with 30hp, then get a couple of bags of builder's sand up front to keep the bow down.

If speed is the objective, you want the bow up slightly.

How about Mk 2 futura S with Tohatsu

Will send you the speed data later but I have actually propped this down to give better pulling power as we use it for pulling towables and wakeboarding

Oh, by the way. If you are running this rig alone or are towing someone out of the water on a ski or wakeboard, I found a neat trick to help with bow weight. I have two large dry-gear bags (the type you use to hold all the dry gear and you fold down and seal the neck to keep the contents waterproof). I use these in reverse and fill them with water and store them up front to help get on the plane quickly. It is very easy to fill them on the lake at the start of the outing and empty them overboard when the day is done. No need to be lugging large bags of useless ballast on board

The best I can get out of my Mk3 with a 50 hp tiller is about 34 MPH.
Specifications state a max speed of 37 MPH for Mk 2 and 3; 35 MPH for Mk 2C.

The specs said much higher many years ago and it led to hassles for Zodiac. The 50 mph barrier has been broken in a perfectly adjusted Futura MK2 with a very finely tuned Yamaha 50hp.
