Another Scottish SIB owner
Hi, just thought I'd introduce myself as I have just ordered my first SIB. It's a waveline 320 with a Suzuki DF8. I'm hoping I'll get lots of use out it but before that all starts, be prepared for some stupid questions
Stu

Going to try it out for the first time on Saturday. Doing a beach launch but not too sure of the process. Any guidance would be helpful

keep in mind you need to register to use loch lomond, you can't just launch.
if you nip into the duncan memorial slipway in balloch the rangers will get you fixed up before you go out.
you need to put numbers on your boat or display them on a white board on both sides. they will sell you everything for about 20 quid if memory serves and is removable, don't put stickers on the actual boat.
cheers

Think it's £6 to register,£55 for annual slipway charges, you will also need backing boards for reg no.i think single launch and retrieve is £15.

Think your £20 will include slipping at Duncan Mills. You need to register "on and off" the Loch as well. It's probably easier just to launch there where you can tie alongside a jetty to get familiar with the boat rather than drifting about off the beach. (I'm also not sure if you are allowed to launch a powered boat from anywhere other than the three official sites. ...Sorry if this sounds onerous, really it's not and the Rangers will keep you right....nice people.

Hi Xk59D, Not sure I fully understand you.
How do you put the numbers on the boat without putting the stickers on the boat? I don't understand
How do you stick them to a SIB?
Thanks

From what I understand. You stock the numbers on a backing board and then tie that to your boat

you can launch where you like at loch lomond so long as you are registered to use the loch.
the decals/backing boards were circa 20 quid last time i got them (only need them once) and that included the reg fee....the launch is on top of that if you choose to do so. since no trailer is involved here they may let you use the slipway FOC so long as you don't block the slip for others, you would need to ask the rangers.
as a newbie, i wouldn't go near the ranger station to launch a SIB, it is a very busy place and akin to a macdonalds drive through on busy days.
cheers
